Whilst the tries scored for/against make for interesting
reading, it would be really handy to know how many of the tries
conceded in each of the three segments were conceded with the
game already won.
The Wuss game is a good microcosm for that, I think.
Their first two tries were conceded in a flat-out, frenetic
period of open play where it never felt as though they were ever
going to get on top of us, and that the players trusted
themselves to beat any team out there in that sort of game, but
the reality is that there are still teams out there who can beat
us, or at least stay with us long enough for fatigue to kick in,
letting their natural game take over.
The Chiefs game fitted that mould for me. Their second two, on
the other hand, were scored well after we'd put the game to bed
and brought on some of the less experienced players off the
bench to gain some valuable game time.
I don't think we should be too worried about the second
scenario, but it would of course still be nice to close those
out as well.

Echoing what QC said, the line-out for me has been one of the
defining factors in the last 3 months. I think I had honestly
just grown in to a position where I just believed/accepted that
we were going to lose any line-out and then have to start again.
Am very sad that Baldwin is going. Not meaning to belittle any
of the playing staff remaining (and I dont know of any incoming
hookers other than the rumours), but he has been pivotal.
In a similar fashion across the pitch though, the free way we
are playing, and the decisions we are making, means that we're
not immediately putting ourselves under pressure from being in a
position of possession, in other phases of the game. Our scrums
have been tremendous, our kicks gauged and successful (Not all
the time but hey its an upward turn :). Losing possession and
giving up monumental amounts of penalties, the way we used to,
from being in a position of possession/lineout/territory/gain
etc etc was one of the most irritating things for me. A
thoroughly deflating way to watch Rugby.
A beautiful winter and early spring. Bring on the ballots :)

He may have spoken a lot about the Quins "DNA" or style, but I'm
not sure he actually ever believed it. It's a nice soundbite to
keep the fans happy but wasn't really reflected in what we were
seeing on the pitch

Urdapilleta was another who never got a crack but seems to have
gone on to have a solid, if not spectacular, career

I think Swiel was doubly unlucky. In his two favoured positions
he was behind NEv & Browny who would always be picked first if
fit.

I think we're also far more clinical in attack than under
Gustard. Our points per visit to the 22 must have massively
improved. I remember how frustrating it was to constantly see
knock-ons, turnovers and forward passes near the opposition
line. The players seem to have confidence in their ability and
more patience now.

Not so sure about that. Against Wuss we created about twice as
many as we scored, only to knock on, forward pass or generally
throw it away, and I think that’s been the general pattern. But
we are creating so many that some of them are bound to stick.
