I can see a European League with at least 2 divisions of 16
teams each playing 15 round robin games & finals.
This structure will provide time within the season for the top 6
to play the top 6 from super rugby in a very lucrative
tournament. Like wise for the Bottom 6 teams.
That is a lot of high quality revenue generating rugby. Those
private equity organisations will be pleased.
Note: This was done on the run as haven't factored in clubs from
SA, Argentina and Japan

A European League or the like is inevitable. It might take 10
years or more, but as in football clubs are becoming
increasingly powerful and, let's face it, the likes of CVC and
the various other PEQ Groups only care about return on
investment. There isn't the money to buy them out. The fox is
already in the hen house.

I don't see how you could justify putting Quins in a European
league. We are by no means regularly one of the top teams in the
premiership, we've never done anything of note in the main
European competition either, apart from the odd memorable moment
such as the Stade drop goal or the Toulouse.
If any super league was based on financial clout / the "big"
clubs, and not merit or trying to have a proper geographical
spread then I'm not sure Italian, Welsh or Scottish teams would
come into the equation. No disrespect meant to those clubs, but
not sure there would be any attempt for a fair spread like you
get now - just the biggest and most powerful clubs.

The justification would be on brand, commercials and supporter
base. Quins are one of the few clubs that could regularly fill
Twickenham (and have it on our doorstep) - David Morgan said at
a Quinssa dinner one year that they could do 2-3 Big Games a
year but the other PRL clubs wouldn't let them for fear of us
getting too much advantage (ironic given this was pre-Salarycens
breaking). Add to that one of the best known brands and shirts
in the league - and the way we are playing right now - and Quins
are a sensible choice for other clubs to involve.
I am personally not in favour of a super league right now - but
if it were to happen the decision would be made on commercial
grounds at least as much as competitive ones.

Which begs the question of how everybody would feel about being
the best of the rest if we dont want to/are not invited to join
any Euro League?

I don't think RU has a big enough draw outside existing markets
for a European Super League to generate enough money to be worth
it. More likely would be a B&I league and a separate French
league (mainly how they are now, but with the Italian teams
joining them).

In the future, the world rugby will be split into 3 (similar
time) zones - Americas (Arg, US, Can, Uru, + 2 others),
Europe-Africa (2x 6N, incl. SA - Italy into 6N 2nd tier) and Far
East (NZ, Aus, Ton, Sam, Fij, Jap) ~ 4 leagues of 6 with winners
going into semis + final; rugby will be played twixt ~ February
and June and August-December in a global season based on
spring/autumn rugby with "break months" in January and July...
Club rugby would be a mix of domestic (with "squad players"
proving their worth in domestic leagues, added and abetted by
"stars") and European (run concurrently, with "stars" and "best
squad players" in Euro games), split into smaller sub-divisions
with less games; larger squads and higher salary caps and,
eventually, later stadia.
This is a "prediction", not exactly what I would want to
happen...
