Are there occasions where Brown taking contact and offloading
leads to something good? Yes.
Are there occasions where Brown taking contact and offloading
wastes a good opportunity? Also yes.
There were several occasions today where Green and Murley,
amongst others, were free in space and brown didn't throw the
early pass to them; just because it wasn't a clear cut 2 on 1
doesn't mean it wasn't the wrong decision.

At least 4 but I think that was it. He's an outstanding jackal.

I presume my try tally was correct so you were questioning my
forgiveness of lapses?
The lapses in the first half were definitively defensive rather
than the usual "mentally weak" cack we usually see, IMO of
course. I thought today's game showed the best game-long proper
attitude since Wasps away. There didn't seem to be any time that
the whole team switched off in terms of attitude and energy. The
first half tries conceded were undoubtedly down to Worcester
running the ball really well, allied with some weak defending;
plus the last Wuss try was a bit embarrassing for us. Don't have
any complaints about their thrid try as we fought very hard in
defence in the lead up. Overall I thought the attitude was the
best for a while - people getting off the floor sharpish and
good to excellent line speed for the whole game.

Lawday had a good game, but in the right match, I would love to
see Evans and Kenningham together

contact which is what I was complaining about. Taking contact
and throwing the offload stifles so many attacks because players
outside you over-run it. People love an offload because it looks
good, but it's not always the good option

He only made three offloads. He threw plenty of well timed
passes to put teammates into space, though.

Good game despite a fairly hairy opening defensive wise. We need
to be a lot more smarter from now on for a top 4 finish, as some
of our defensive lapses and mistakes would be punished 10 fold
by better oppo.
Thought Marchant had a good game and we finally in my view have
a solid 12/13 partnership since the day of JTH and Lowe.
Herron continues to show why sometimes punts on championship
players don’t always come off and we would be screwed if Marcus
had a long term injury/away for internationals if this area
isn’t addressed.
Louw I think has more than replaced Sinks in my view, and he’s a
probably a more likeable character too.
Wouldn’t make too many changes ahead of Irish unless Lewies is
potentially back as Chisholm.

Agree about Marchant. Was good to see him making breaks and
getting his hands on the ball, would argue that him and Andre
are the best centre partnership in the league so we need to be
getting the best out of both of them.
Louw had a great game, made some big carries, defensively very
strong. At 26 I hope we can hold onto him for a good while.
Evans and Kenningham would be an interesting pairing on the
flanks. I’d probably let Kenningham get a few more games next
to Lawday/Chis at 6 and be replacing Evans towards in the second
half. Although he gave away a couple of pens, I thought Evans
had a great game. What a signing he’s been, in terms of
jackling ability he must be one of the best we’ve ever had at
the club. We need to keep him fit and healthy for us to have a
good chance towards the end of the season.
On Worcester, i was really looking forward to seeing what
Lawrence and Hill could do as I haven’t caught many of their
games this season. Both I thought were pretty anonymous. Seems
like Hill has taken a backwards step after having such a strong
breakthrough a couple of seasons ago.

Yep. I’d agree on all of that.
Evans also had at least one good turnover harshly penalised.
I’m annoyed at gifting Worcester that final try. Less of a
problem with their third.
This game confirmed a lot of what we already know. We really
need to maximise what we’re getting from our starters in the
first 3 quarters of the game because our bench is a very
significant step down in most cases. I fear games where it’s
close at 60mins because even if we’re leading, I know we’re
liable to concede points and a lot less likely to score any!

Assuming Steele is out for a while and Chis/ Lewies are close to
coming back, I think this is probably our strongest bench:
16) Gray
17) Els
18) Kerrod
19) Lamb
20) Lawday
21) Landajo
22) Herron
23) Northmore
I’d argue that the bench forwards and Northmore are decent
enough to replace starters, it’s the half back where we are
significantly weaker. Obviously we aren’t going to get someone
of Smith’s quality to be coming off the bench, but I just don’t
trust Herron to lead us at 10.

Updated stats. Mike Brown 11 passes and 2 offloads...
