Exeter isn't anywhere near the same prices as London & the SE,
can buy a nice 4 bed detached suburban house for 3-400K. I used
to live in Plymouth which was even cheaper still and only a 45
minute drive.

You can buy a nice house within 45 minutes of Guildford for
that.

Why is that relevant? Why would you live in Twickenham (I could
just stop there 😁) if your job is in Guildford but you
need to visit Twickenham for an afternoon every couple of weeks?

I live a 25 minute drive south of Guildford (40 at normal rush
hour) and you can't around here....
