Team for Wuss and Irish

Dear Fellow Quins, it seems we have a few things to put behind
us and move forward. With that in mind, I wanted to see what
people thought about our line up for the next two games.
To my mind, we go as strong as possible, especially given that
there will be another break straight afterwards (for the
European semis on the first weekend of May) before we play Wasps
on the 9th May.
I think Earle will be on paternity leave, Morris is still out
and Lewies might be working his way back to fitness. So I would
go for:
1. Marler
2. Baldwin
3. Louw
4. Lamb
5. Symons
6. Chisholm
7. Evans
8. Dombrandt
9. Care
10. Smith
11. Murley
12. Esterhuizen
13. Marchant
14. Green
15. Brown
16. Gray
17. Els
18. Kerrod
19. Tizard (or Young)
20. Lawday
21. Steele
22. Lang (Herron? Lasike? Tapuai?)
23. Northmore
There is the excellent team predictor above the conversations if
you want to offer your thoughts there too. Just interested to
see what different ideas and tweaks people had for this mini
run. I think the first XV picks itself but I am in two minds
about whether to have Herron or Lang on the bench.

I think the only real selection dilemma is at 13. I'd argue
Northmore deserves the nod.

I agree that this is a really interesting battle. Both Marchant
and Northmore offer so much. I think the Briz game showed that
Marchant might remain first choice this season.
However, I would be perfectly happy to see Northmore start this
one and maybe Marchant start against Irish.

I agree, but Lang is leaving and Herron needs game time.

Think your team is pretty much spot on. Lang and Young on the
bench for me. I'm hoping that Lewies is back fit.
I think Els should be on the bench ahead of Botta, but suspect
it might be the other way around.
Agree that we should go full strength for both games. For the
run in we'll need to see some more rotation probably, but
hopefully only 2-3 players each week, slotting in and out,
rather than wholesale changes. We can bring players like
Collier, Botta, Elia, Tizard, White, Kenningham, Landajo,
Herron, Lasike, etc onto the bench or even into the starting XV
when needed, as long as they have first choice players around
them

No excuses for us not to play our strongest available XV in
every game remaining this season when you consider the breaks
we’ll have with the European weekends. I guess there’s a few
spots in the starting team which have to be considered. If
Lewies is fit, there’s no question obviously. If he isn’t, it
will be horses for courses for me with Lamb for the bigger packs
we come up against and Young for teams with a stronger lineout.
In the backs, I’d pick Lang over Herron. Simply because he is a
lot better player. Green i think has to play, the other wing
spot can be a reward for form between Murley, Earle, Lynagh,
Morris (if fit). 13 is interesting because I think Marchant
can’t be left out, but Northmore is giving a huge headache.
Could we see Marchant moved to wing?
Will be interesting to see how it all plays out, but no reason
not to go full strength every game now

Strongest team we've got from here on in unless anyone is
nursing a niggle. No underestimating anyone.

The problem with only using your first choice players is that
the other players will be rusty. All it takes is for a serious
injury to happen for us having to rely on 2nd, 3rd or even 4th
choice players who will have had virtually no game time to then
go on and play for the rest of the season at the sharp end.
You only have to look at what happened to Robshaw over the
weekend, Earle last season, or Catrakilis in his first full game
for us to know that a season-ending injury can happen in a blink
of an eye. I'd prefer our coaching/selection team to make sure
that the potential replacements and their deputies get some
actual game time under their belts to make sure they're not
coming in undercooked when they're needed. Look at the way the
saracens players in the England squad were not game ready for
the 6 Nations. These were seasoned Internationals/Lions who had
had a break from actual time on the pitch. Their fitness would
probably have been better than the rest, but they underperformed
because they weren't "game ready".

I agree with T-Bone. Sensible levels of rotation will be needed,
but our best players should be playing the majority of minutes
for the rest of the season.
We should go full strength against Worcester and Irish, two
teams we often underperform against.
Our biggest issue is at 10. If Marcus gets injured our season is
pretty much over. I don't believe we can win a semi-final or
final without him. The coaches can't wrap him up in cotton wool,
but hopefully they can manage his minutes if/when opportunities
to do so arise.
