When thing is, if you’re effectively going to concede one
competition, you need to make that count in the other ...
As I say, I think it is the right decision, but that’s obviously
dependent on us doing the business in the league.

As I said in another thread, what on earth is the point of
aiming for top 4 in the premiership if you only then treat your
european fixtures with distain.Utterly disappointed with the
club with this selection.In my 21 years as a season ticket
holder I've never felt so deflated.We couldn't beat either
Bristol or Exeter when they had depleted teams; we won't beat
either of them when they are full strength.We had a real chance
in this competition - thrown away.

Never felt more deflated in 21 years!!!
Relegation
Bloodgate
Nilled at Home to Irish in the semi
thats just off the top of my head
I think we stand a very good chance beating Exeter or Bristol in
the Play Offs. We should fear no one currently. As for
throwing the game away, I think the team tomorrow will surprise
a few tbh.

We’ve pushed Bristol and Exeter close recently, but both were a
few players off full strength, and it wasn’t the pressure of
knockout. I agree our run-in in the prem is in our favour which
is why this weak selection baffles me.
Prioritising top 4 just so we can get beaten comfortably in the
semi-final seems pointless to me when we have a genuine chance
to win a trophy. Bristol won the Challenge Cup last year and
look at them now.
I also think mix of 1st and 2nd choice players could still pick
up wins and get us top 4 in the prem anyway, so I’d have liked
to see a strong side out today.
Having said all that, I’ll happily eat humble pie if we get a
win tomorrow, or win a prem semi-final

I just find it strange how people are so confident/certain that
Exeter or Bristol will hammer us in the semis!!! Of all the
teams in the running, I would take a guess that we are the one
that no one else would want to play currently, imho

We didn't set out to be relegated.
Bloodgate? We just happened to be the side to be caught
out.Nilled at home by Irish in a semi final? Theres nothing
wrong with losing to the better side on the day. I don't recall
picking a team of 3rd/ 4th choice players in that match.
We have also been nilled at home by both Sale and Stade
Francais.I have seen some truely awful stuff from Quins over the
years but I don't recall ever putting a team out to lose when we
have a great chance to advance in a competition.

I think you are letting your heart rule your head. Look what we
did to Gloucester when they put out a weakened team.
Gloucester had the excuse of a shed load (ahem) of players
missing. We don't have an excuse.
Don't get me wrong, I'm loving how Quins are playing at the
moment. But, and its a big but, we aren't yet consistantly good
enough to beat a full strength Bristol or Exeter in a knock out
game.So even if we do finish in the top four in the league, we
will still finish up with nothing tangible to show for this
season.

The club have conceded nothing, only person conceding anything
is you. You have basically written off the league and cup in one
post.

If you want to win the Premiership, the last two games are
knockout games - this would have been a perfect environment to
test our knockout rugby temperament; I really hope they do well
and win tomorrow, but I think it's a wasted opportunity and puts
out an untested team - albeit with some evident skill and
promise - against an almost full-strength Ulster side.
You get the feeling that this may represent the last chance
saloon for some of the players...

The thing is, you don’t need to be ‘consistently’ good enough in
a knock out. You just need to be good enough on the day.
The team is definitely a second string but there are 8 capped
internationals in there and some experienced players among those
without a cap (Earle for example). It’s not like it is just
kids. By my count, the Ulster side has 8 too - Herring, Cooney,
Burns, O’Sullivan, Treadwell, Reidy, McCloskey and Stockdale.
Only Herring and Stockdale are Ireland regulars. Billy Burns is
a good player but realistically only in the Ireland squad
because they have few alternatives at 10, McCloskey, O’Sullivan,
Treadwell and Reidy have a handful of caps between them. They’re
a good side, but it’s not the men against boys scenario you seem
to be portraying.
I’d also say that the Bristol side we played was slightly
under-strength but not a second string side by any means. Let’s
not forget we were missing Lewies too.

I think our boys will be up for it. For a number of them, it
could be their last competitive game of the season if they
don't win.
Ulster are undoubted favourites, but an opportunity to develop
the squad. To compete on two fronts we need to develop greater
strength in depth. Have to start somewhere...
