I admit that it does seem odd for an official to believe firmly
something happened when subsequently it turns out it didn't. But
I'd remind you all this is the entire premise of "three card
monte", having you convinced you've seen something that hasn't
happened, i.e. where the queen is. I'm not suggesting rugby is
magic or a con trick, but you can be convinced something has
happened when it actually hasn't. Officials are only human, and
we have to regard them as a random factor in the outcome of a
game. I don't believe necessarily "it all evens out over the
course of the season", it may do but perhaps it may not. Are we
going to see a Harlequins try given that wins us a match we
should have lost, maybe we will and maybe we won't.

To be fair to sinckler, he hasn’t been anywhere near a try line
for the last couple of months, so probably didn’t recognise it!

It's a strange thing to make a mistake about, no? Sinckler was
short of the line and the replays showed there was no way the AR
could see anything. But I accept there's a possibility he just
confidently made another absolute howler.
I'm feeling less than charitable towards him after the Thomas
decision and the utterly bizarre call on Brown. Very, very
suspicious of him.

I think you will find it was a different AR for the Sinkler try
and the Brown lineout call.
The only possible explanation I can come up for the Brown
decision is Dix didn't think the ball crossed the plane of
touch.
If the ball has not reached the plane of touch when it is caught
or picked up, the catcher is deemed to have taken the ball into
touch, regardless of whether the ball was in motion or
stationary.
edited for clarity

Brown was a metre in touch when he caught the ball over his
head. There's really no explanation apart from one based around
competence.
Are you sure it was a different AR? I didn't think they swapped
sides at HT. Happy to retract the accusation if you're sure and
just return to grumbling about the general standard! :)

It wasn't a catch over the head, but I'm 99.9% certain the ball
had crossed the plane of touch when Browny caught it. I know
it's slightly at an angle, but the replay is pretty clear.
Brown's foot was in the air & hadn't crossed the line in this
image, and the ball is further "out" of the field of play than
his foot is:

re - Brown, I agree it was a bad call, and Dix got it wrong but
this was the only explanation I could work out for giving the
call against Quins. As you can see from the still provided by FF
he is just in touch still and stepping into the field of play.
re ARs - Yes I am positive they switched sides

Cheers. If it was a different AR then I'm less worried about a
particular person and will just happily gripe about the standard
in general!
(whichever AR thought Sinckler being flat on the floor in a
scrum didn't deserve penalising also gets my ire :) )

Well the presenter on Classic FM the other morning announced it
was 8.20 the other day when it was 7.20 nearly giving me heart
failure. Now all he had to do was read a clock which is hardly
difficult so it could easily be described as a strange thing to
make a mistake about. Sometimes people simply make mistakes.
I think to suggest the AR obviously and clearly lied does you
little credit and will cause folks to have doubts about other
things you post but that's just my opinion and you are of course
fully entitled to post what you like. I doubt the AR's lawyer's
will be in touch with DOK!

I do. Bad sportsmanship. Poor officiating as well, but bad
sportsmanship.
He knew he hadn't scored, and told Sheedy to "Take it, just
f***ing take it." Hey ho.
