'It's our job. Everyone wants to be as good as they can be at
their job. People get to see us on a Saturday, but they don't
get to see us in between. Trust me, we will be doing everything
we can, going through the tournament with a fine tooth comb to
figure out where the improvements are and what we need to
address."
The bit that Youngs seems to miss is that it is what you do on a
Saturday that counts.

Smoke and mirrors. Youngs has been poor for a long time and part
of Englands 8,9,10 issue. Fix these 3 positions and I don't
think we would look half as bad. Secondary to that, Centres and
Front row. Its pleasing Malins finally might see off Daly when
hes fit though. I'd like to see how Slade/Daly go as a centre
partnership. Daly isn't awful, just a dreadful fullback.
Hopefully the RFU stop tweeting pathetic videos of the squad
playing games, or doing some pointless fun game. I don't recall
much from Genge doing his actual job as in playing well and not
giving away daft pens, but perhaps he was too tired from his
busy piece to camera work.
Surprised EJ hasn't blamed lack of crowds as the reason, or
perhaps a change in breakfast suppliers.

You don't have to read the tweets, and they are of interest to
the younger generation. Quins do the same thing on social media,
as do all major sports teams. Bit of an "old man yelling at
cloud" vibe there!
I think England's biggest problem is Eddie's own inflexibility
in how he handles players, how he wants England to play, and how
he prepares them for big matches, particularly away from home.
You could put Dombrandt, Sam Simmonds, Marcus Smith, and Dan
Robson in there and if he's still grinding players into the
ground and demanding a safety-first gameplan then it wont make
much difference. Eddie needs to understand his preferred
tactical approach is done, and that his coaching style is
becoming more and more toxic.

Pretty deluded stuff from Youngs.
The players should take the blame for the indiscipline, and
Jones for the style of play and selection. Lots of teams go
through phases where their particular style of play works really
well. Then other teams work it out and, if there is no plan B or
ability to play another way, you're stuffed. If the opposition
doesn't let you win the kick chase and defensive pressure game,
then you have to actually try attacking, but if the players have
been coached not to, they can't just make it up on the hoof.
Just look what's happening at Quins when the same players who
were struggling are allowed to play to their strengths. Look at
France starting to win consistently again playing decent rugby.
If I was an English 8 or 9 I'd find Jones' comments about a lack
of talent coming through in certain positions very insulting. It
is simply not true. The talent is there, he just won't look at
it.
If there's not another 9 in the country who plays like Youngs,
then maybe give a crack to a 9 who actually plays well.
Likewise, if there's no direct replacement for Billy, given
someone else a chance who brings other attributes. I'm sure they
could replace Billy's ability to catch a kick off and run back
into yards of empty space easily enough.

Yeah, just looking at 9 there's these guys:
Robson
Spencer
Randall
Care (as a supersub option only IMO)
and some great young talent coming through including van
Poortfliet at Tigers and Quirke at Sale. And they can all pass
better than Ben Youngs, and have some actual attacking threat,
too.
At 8 you've got Premiership and European Player of the Year Sam
Simmonds who cannot stop scoring tries, Alex Dombrandt, Tom
Willis, even Nathan Hughes. Anyone but the ponderous lump that's
been masquerading as Billy Vunipola over the last 2 years.
The only position where I do think we're hamstrung a little is
at 12, where Farrell probably is the best option for that style
of 12, especially as Eddie binned off Alex Lozowski and he went
to Japan. Of course the idea of not having a 12 who isn't a
running threat isn't considered...

He's just excellent - love to see him brought down to Quins...
