Just had an enjoyable read of the ShedWeb board and as always,
it’s the hope that kills you :) From 24 - 0 to 24 - 24 and then
nothing.
The other thing that stands out is the naked hatred towards Mike
Brown displayed by some (but not all) posters. I know we are one
eyed but I am constantly surprised by the strength of feeling
that the rest of the world seemingly has for Mikey. Former
colleagues who were rugby watchers and good friends would start
to froth at the mouth at the mere mention of his name. There
will always be players you love to hate and for me, that is as
much about grudging admiration for their abilities as anything.
Mikey is certainly no choir boy but where we see passion and
commitment and skill, others see something else which is sad for
a player of his quality who has given so much for club and
country.

Yeah, Brown does seem to attract a lot of vitriol, along with
players like Farrell and Ashton. I always find it quite
remarkable that a grown person could have such strong personal
feelings towards a rugby player who's greatest crime would be
copping the odd ban or having a punchable face.

My son knows one of the academy boys who says that Mike Brown is
the nicest person at Harlequins; incredibly generous with his
time and help for the younger players. All his aggression is
obviously saved for the matches. Personally I have always really
enjoyed his attitude when playing - huge commitment all the
time.

Not a popular opinion but we should have been better today.
Before the match I said to a friend 50 point is a minimum and we
hit that so great - but how many 2 on 1s did we butcher? 3 by my
count just from a first watch. Gloucester put out a bin juice
team and we still squandered a few opportunities. Good results
but more it’s basics that we’re not executing and we need to to
win big trophies

On the downside, we left at least 3 tries out there and let them
get back to level-pegging from 24-0 down. Head-scratching stuff!
The mentality has to improve. We can't switch off either side
of half time (as seems to happen to us a bit too much). We have
to manage the way a team fights back and spike their guns more
effectively. Especially with Briz and Ulster next up!
On the upside, we were scintillating! So many brilliant tries,
lovely lines of running, pace, strength and wonderful offloads.
We are really connecting very well as a team. Murley and Green
were excellent. Care, Brown and Smith continued to be the best
English players in the league. Esterhuizen and Northmore,
however, were simply outstanding. Andre has absolutely
everything in his game. He was unquestionably man of the match.
The pack did a great job. Els was solid, Gray gave consistent
good ball and Lamb won so many lineouts against the head.
Chisholm, Evans and Dombrandt are the best back row in the
league.
So, a thoroughly deserved and enjoyable win which, being Quins,
was oddly dicey!! Really looking forward to the game against
Briz. We know we have the skills and quality, let's go with
belief and the right mentality. We can do it!!!

It was too easy and we got sloppy, butchered far too many tries,
then let them into the game. When it started being serious again
we put the foot down and hockeyed them. Not ideal but they
learned during the game and here we are, whinging about sticking
50+ points on a team :)

Solid performance apart from 5 mins either side of half time ..
really impressed with Tyrone greens attitude atm abs Andre must
be in with a chance of saffa selection again

Nick Evans surprisingly accused Harlequins of being “sloppy”
despite dishing out a painful nine-try thrashing to struggling
Gloucester and maintaining their impressive bid for the
play-offs.
Attack coach and former fly half Evans also demanded the team be
“more clinical and ruthless” if they are to maintain their push
for the title as they amassed a half century of points in a game
at the Stoop.
The London outfit has flourished under general manager Billy
Millard since he took over from Paul Gustard at the start of the
year, and have now put together a run of seven wins from nine
games, but Evans greeted this victory by claiming: “We scored
nine great tries but left a few more out there.
“Our conversion rate in the final 22 was not good enough and has
to improve if we want to continue the upward curve, and if we
want to get that play-off place. We also have to cut out the
moments in the game where we allow teams back into it and score
points. We did that against Exeter and again today where we got
sloppy at 24-0 ahead and they were suddenly on level terms.
“After losing at Sandy Park this was about the performance more
than the points. But it’s always good to get a bonus point win,
especially against a Gloucester side which we knew would come
hard at us and are keen to improve their own position in the
Premiership.”
England No 8 hopeful Alex Dombrandt produced another powerful,
imposing ball-carrying and tryscoring display to give Eddie
Jones another timely nudge as England’s latest unsuccessful Six
Nations campaign ended in Dublin.
Harlequins flew out of their trap like greyhounds not fed for a
few weeks. The bonus point try was in the bag within 25 minutes
as they swarmed all over Gloucester and suffocated them in the
rucks and mauls, and then cut them apart with ball in hand on
the attack.
Cadan Murley fed Luke Northmore to race over for the first and
Quins proved just as lethal from inside their own 22 as a rare
Gloucester pressure ended with the home side break down the
other end and Mike Brown reached out a long arm for the second
try which Marcus Smith converted. Centre Andre Esterhuizen
sparked the break and the ball was moved between several
team-mates in a rapid attack which ripped their rivals apart and
left them gasping for air.
Moments later Brown slipped a short pass to the supporting
Murley and the wing galloped unchallenged across for another
try. It was turning into a very embarrassing and humbling
afternoon for the Westcountry men. The bonus try came when
flanker James Chisholm charged through, and offloaded to Danny
Care, who faked a pass before finishing the move off.
Gloucester finally discovered the art of attack, and a break
through the middle resulted in flanker Jack Clement sending
scrum half Charlie Chapman under the posts for a much-needed
try.
George Barton added the conversion and kicked a quick
second-half penalty goal to spark an amazing turn around in the
contest and a dramatic Gloucester fightback with first Freddie
Clarke, the flanker, surging across the line, and then Chapman
dashing through for his second. The visitors were on level terms
at 24-24 . . . but, sadly for them, not for long. The recovery
was quickly put to bed.
Quins shook themselves awake and Care was on hand to finish
another quick-fire move for his second try before Tyrone Green
raced over for a sixth try.
Gloucester had centre Matt Banahan sent off for a dangerous high
tackle on Green. The former England back was also left dazed on
the ground after hitting his own head on the hard turf. But,
after treatment, had to take the long walk off.
Dombrandt put the seal on his outstanding all-round display with
two late tries and Northmore completed his own brace as
Gloucester capitulated a man down and all hope extinguished.
Gloucester head coach George Skivington admitted: “With all the
players missing and 11 academy lads out there this was always
going to be about character. And I have no issue with that. The
fightback to 24-24 was brilliant but sadly we couldn’t maintain
it and also lost Matt near the end to a red card.”
