Marchant Called Up As Cover

Slade is a doubt so Marchant called up as cover but assume he is
behind Lawrence and Odogwu. Would rather he stayed with us and
definitely played at the weekend.

We're really lucky now to have Northmore, who I completely trust
step in and provide continuity of service at 13 in Marchant's
absence. I do wonder if we'll be able to hang onto both of them
longer term with their similar age and presumably similar
ambitions, so am enjoying it while it lasts...

Seems bizarre to call up Marchant given there's 2 13s (and Daly)
in the squad already.

Not so much given he can also cover wing and is coming into
decent form

He's still not really done much and we don't need wing cover,
the England squad already has that.
Just seems a waste of everyone's time for one game.

I am probably biased but feel Machant deserves to be starting
for England when Slade is out - he's getting back to his best
form, has a lot of experience now, solid in defence. He ticks
all the boxes for me.
As TBQ said it will be good to give Northmore a run out who has
also been impressive for us.

Surely Marchant's best form involves him shredding defences and
scoring a hatful of tries? He's stopped being anonymous /
dropping the ball all the time, but we're still not seeing
anything like pre-NZ Joe who was a nightmare for defences.
Last couple of games:
Against Exeter he made 13m and beat no defenders
Saints he ran in that try set up by Dombrandt and Brown, and
make 86m - but beat no defenders
He was good against Sale, but so far I think that's been the
only example where I could think he was back to his old ways. He
doesn't have Slade's kicking game or passing vision, so it's a
tough sell to say he's the next best option with Odogwu and
Lawrence already there.

Definitely staying with England for the week as per the offy:
MARCHANT TO REMAIN WITH ENGLAND AHEAD OF SIX NATIONS CLASH
Harlequins can confirm that centre Joe Marchant will remain with
England to train ahead of the national side’s Six Nations game
in Dublin as injury cover.
Marchant will be unavailable for selection for Harlequins’ home
Gallagher Premiership fixture against Gloucester this weekend.
