For clarity: I was not being entirely serious about Farrell.

he was playing on crutches so could have both him and Marcus
away at same time..it’s no secret we’ve flourished when our 9/10
hasn’t been hampered with international call up. I actually
think if a team is to be successful you should stay clear of the
9/10 being regular internationals!

I'm not sure the evidence of the current league table backs up
that claim:
Bristol - Randall & Sheedy with international squads (both very
recently, admittedly)
Exeter - Maunder & Simmons non-internationals (rightly or
wrongly)
Quins - Care & Smith non-internationals (rightly or wrongly),
Steele away
Sale - Faf and AJ both internationals
Saints - Mitchell on the fringes, Biggar is away

It certainly helped Quins having Nick Evans available whenever
he was fit.
But how often do you find that a world class fly half is willing
to commit fully to club rugby because one of his few rivals on
the global stage is ahead of him in his national pecking order?
Oh. Hang on a minute...

The two top teams got to where they are (Particularly Exeter)
with having a consistent 9/10 combo. White and Steenson were a
great mix as an example, with White only used by the wallabies a
handful of times

It's a little different with non-6N internationals. You don't
lose them anywhere near as often.

I suspect Nick David joining from Worcester is pretty much a
done deal. But assuming; i) Mike stays, ii) our outgoing are
limited to Lang and potentially Landejo and iii) Lynagh and
Stafford are promoted, then I agree we may not do any more
business in the backs. There is value in putting a foot on the
ball after the amount of churn in recent years.
(That said, signing Bennett (FH/FB at Cardiff Met) could be a
useful addition without being disruptive.)

I could see Tapuai and/or Campagnero going as well. Bit of cash
there that we would not really miss (no offence). Andre,
Lasike, Marchant, Northmore, Beard, Lennox and Hyde. Green and
Murley also able to cover. I still think we could afford to
lose a TH also (but I know that is Forwards and we are talking
about Backs!!)

I know nothing about Bennett but given our hit rate recruiting
from Cardiff Met, I would have no objection to us taking a punt.

Apparently he was training with us earlier in the season. There
was a rumour a few weeks ago that he may be joining Gloucs on a
short term deal till the end of the season due to injuries. Not
happened yet though

Had Steele not signed, I would have liked to see us look at John
Cooney at Ulster.
"The man's a fool" I hear you cry. 2 things. 1, yes I am and 2,
he's clearly not going to get any game time for Ireland under
Farrell Snr so why not open the cheque book for a 2 year
contract and get the benefit. It means Danny drops to bench but
him and Smith could be tasty and gives us a back up kicker.
Would be nice.
