Except its not the same at all.
Time is not off, the refferee hasn't told the Edinburgh captain
to talk to his players - just explained what the penalty was for
and asked for discipline and then (loudly) called for the
Sarricens captain's decision for the awarded penalty.

But that is Redpath's fault. The ref hadn't asked him to - nor
       had he stopped the clock.
I'm no fan of Farrell but suggesting - as the article does -
that its all fine and dandy when the boot is on the other foot
       is simply wrong.

Yeah, the waterboys comment is not really the issue, it's the
fairness or unfairness of the reffing.

the last action of South Africa vs England.

1 - Yes, exactly. You can't just expect the game to wait for you
if you decide to have a chat with your team. If the referee has
specifically told you to however, you absolutely can expect the
       game to wait for you.
2 - He certainly divides opinion. In that instance it was
certainly borderline, though deemed not high. (I also don't
believe the referee or any TMO claimed to have got it wrong
       afterwards either!)

You can't just stop quick thinking, such as this and tap and
goes. Teams need to be alert. It's different when the ref tells
you to go and talk to your team then only calls time back on
when the attacking ten asks you to

If your belief was actually in law we would never see a quick
tap again! Just have a quick chat and slow it down. Ready
       gents?? Off we go!

I noticed yesterday that when Luke Pearce told Stephan to cut
out the penalties he very pointedly said something along the
lines of "Yes, go and talk to your team and yes, I will give you
       time to do so."
The point being that there it's up to the ref - not as a matter
of Law but as a matter of good game management - not to give one
team or the other an unfair advantage and that includes not
violating a team's reasonable expectation that they will be
legged over because they followed the ref's instructions.
If time is still on, then it's on the offending team to make
sure they're ready for whatever the ref allows. If the ref has
taken time off so that you can talk to your team, then it's on
the ref to make sure that you have finished that task and are
       ready for play to resume.
If nothing else, Gauzere has added to the stock of refereeing
techniques by establishing that what he did for the Adams try is
very much not the way it should be done.

Yes, I noticed that. Had a wry little chuckle to myself at the
       time.
Totally agree with your points too by the way. Gauzere gave 1
team a clear unfair advantage - poor game management, as you
       say.

Agree with above posts, you can't just allow a team captain to
go have a chat when he likes as how slow will games get when
teams under pressure. Quick tap and go etc should be allowed to
flow its a great part of the game. You should only expect be
able to have the chat if the ref has asked you or time is off
for whatever reason. If the ref asks you to call your team
together and have a chat he owes it to that team to allow them
to get back into their defensive position after the chat, that
in no way happened in the Welsh game and time was still on in
the above video so really not the same thing.
