I'm impressed with Parton. Seen Irish a few times this season
and he's caught the eye. Yesterday was the first time I've
watched Tigers and to be honest didn't really see what all the
fuss was about Steward. Clearly he's a unit but his kicking game
was off and didn't seem to offer much on the counter. Maybe just
an off day for him. I know he's highly rated by many.
We also have Tyrone Green in the mix and Earle, so lots of
options. The big questions is whether any of them can offer the
same defensive solidity as Brown. Would be interesting to see
Lynagh and/or Green get some time at 15 this season.

I think we’re going to have to accept that we will not find a
fullback who will offer the same defensive solidity as Brown,
for the very simple reason that there aren’t any. At his peak,
Brown was probably the best defensive fullback in world rugby,
and while he’s getting older now there are still very few to
match him.
Lynagh is already offering a lot in attack and is secure in most
of his basics. He isn’t as assured in positioning and decision
making as Brown was at the same age (but Brown’s positional
assurance was freakishly precocious), but he has time to
develop.
That said, I was impressed with Steward yesterday. He didn’t
make any exceptional breaks, but that was largely down to Quins
putting up contestable kicks and our newfound line speed. There
were several times I thought we had Leicester under real
pressure and Steward found a way to ease it either with a well
timed tackle or a carry that bought them time to reorganise and
clear. I can see why they’d want to hang onto him, but if he’s
interested in moving then I’d be interested in us having him.
The other big thing I was impressed with from Tigers yesterday
was their speed to the breakdown. Fortunately for Quins, Marcus
was creating opportunities all over the place but on another day
we might have rued the number of chances that they turned over
or blocked by slowing down the recycle. I hope our coaches are
watch closely on the video analysis and can transfer some of
that to the Quins players.

Tigers young scrum half looked pretty useful, & their 6 was a
real brute for a youngster.

No surprise him staying in France with a home world cup on the
horizon.
He's a talented player but he'll be commanding big wages. If
we're going to splash the big bucks I'd rather we save it for a
high class back rower or lock.

Nick David from Worc set to join us. Good signing imo,
wing/fullback option with 2nd most metres made in prem this
season.

Very happy for Baldwin to stay, didn't think I'd be saying that
last season!
We need another 1st choice lock, don't think any of the academy
boys are big and strong enough yet.
We desperately need some back row cover. Another Evans would be
good, we lost a lot of momentum when he went off yesterday. His
disruptive influence on Sale's ball and his link play on ours
really was lovely to see. We probably can't find another one so
a bit hard carrier would be an option too. Something we've not
really had since big Mo left.

If Smith or Evans get injured we're in trouble. Imo our
priorities for recruitment should be another genuine openside
and quality back up at 10.
A quality lock to really push Lewies and Symons would be great,
but we need the above first.
