Generally agreed. I also think with the odd points allocation -
the 4 - 2 is the most unlikely split going, I think we'd end up
in a legal row if anyone was to go down.
Essentially there are probably 13 clubs that can play in the
premiership and satisfy ground regulations etc etc. With few
exceptions it has been pretty obvious who is going down from
early on in the season most years. I'm in favour of keeping
relegation for sure but not everyone can and will be anything
approaching Exeter and we have to be realistic about that.
There's Ealing who have the money but not the ground (Loftus
Road aside), Pirates who have the ambition but not the money or
the ground (yet on the latter) then there's the likes of Bedford
who don't want to come up.
As others have said - it'll be up to BT anyway.

I think the top of the table is dull unless your own team is
involved. To an extent the only games that matter are the semis
and the final. Personally it a 2 hour journey each way to watch
a game at Quins. I do not think I would bother to watch a load
of what I would construe as meaningless games if Quins were mid
table or towards the bottom of the table playing a team at the
bottom end.

Well PRL have been sticking two fingers up to the honest teams
for six years at least albeit somewhat strangely with the
assistance of some of the honest ones!

The battle for top 4 is always meaningful and goes to the wire,
and while if you're talking about teams guaranteed one of the
top spots - eg the likes of Exeter - then while where they
finish is not in doubt, the fact is you're watching the best
teams in the league, rather than the worst.
When was the last time Quins were in any danger of being
relegated? Once in the last decade?

London Scottish are not taking part in the Championship and I
don’t think Ampthill are either because they wanted grants not
loans to help the finances. Are they going to play the fixtures
without them or will more clubs pull out making the competition
void. Then quite simply there should be no relegation or
promotion in this extraordinary season. Then assuming we are
back to as normal as possible next September, both competitions
start again. As normal.

Ampthill are crowdfunding their way into the tournament to avoid
the loans. Word has it that Saracens supporters (equivalent of
Quinssa) have chipped in.

The most exciting relegation battle was unfortunately in 2004/5.
Quins relegated because they lost by 1 point to Sale. A win
and they would have stayed up and Saints gone down.

I thought Ampthill were minted? Hence playing Tongan
internationals in lower league rugby.

Yes, it all depended on that last kick of the game, which missed
by a whisker. Still, we got to see some different grounds the
next year. Particularly remember the Bedford game where we
discovered you could play up the slope or down the slope!
[emoji15] But also met some really great fans in the
championship.
