Moore's tweet refers to a really interesting article in The
Athletic today on Owen Eastwood and what he's done for the
England team around culture and team identity. Along with
Gareth Southgate, they realised that the England team had little
sense of culture or purpose and they've worked hard to restore
that.

Given recent posts, I'm not going to copy & paste it all here
(esp as someone I know writes for The Athletic).
One small relevant section is: "Fundamentally, these [football]
kids are no different to many of the kids you meet in other
sports. They’re capable of leadership and they’re capable of
taking ownership. What has been different, traditionally, is the
expectation of rugby players in their culture. They were
expected to have an opinion and contribute to meetings and shape
that culture, whereas in football, traditionally, you’re
expected to, ‘do as the gaffer says’. It’s dictatorial, but you
can change that. And that’s what they’ve done in the England
set-up.”

That's a fascinating paragraph - not least because from what
little we know of l'affaire Gustard, the big change when he
departed was that it forced the players to take responsibility
for their own and the team's performance. Had we slipped too far
towards a football style of management? Whether we had or not,
the aftermath led to some of the best rugby we've ever seen.

I do wonder that he went because the players wanted to take too
much responsibility..( in his view)..
