The first thing any new coach / dor would bring in is their own
       people.
It is going to take a massive character to take on the ex player
       coaches and militant players.
Any self respecting coach could not let what happened to Gustard
happen to them. Gustard is looking as if his comments are salty.
If I was metaphorically stabbed in the back, as seems to have
happened, I would be seething. Not a good look for the club.

Until we hear it from a source other than Andy Goode I'm not
sure we can say it's what seems to have happened.
Quins have been pretty bad under Gustard in the last 18 months.

Some seem to be putting alot of faith in what AG has to say.
Clandestine Meetings = Players telling their employer they are
not happy (quite possible, this could have come up during
       contract meetings).
PG seems to have been quite unpopular. Sean Longs comments
about having ideas but not being allowed to instigate them makes
sense now, and he wasnt "one of the old guard".
Marlers comment (posted elsewhere).about not being happy about
the photo, telling PG who pretty much ignored his request.
Plenty on here were not happy with PG so why is it a surprise
the players may not have been???

Genuine question - does the DOR have complete autonomy over
recruitment (players and coaches) in any other Prem clubs ? I
would imagine if there is a suspected senior player powerbase at
Quins, any incoming DOR will want his own squad/coaches, and if
that isn't until the end of the season, he could inherit the
same 'problem' if Dalrymple renews all the senior player
       contracts in the interim.

Yep. This is what I’m worried about.
I don’t know if I’d go as far as describing the players as
‘militant’, but I do worry that certain players have an undue
influence on the success/failure of any incoming coach.
As I said in my previous post, there are potentially lots of
good things about taking the Quins role, but even a small amount
of research will reveal plenty of red flags that will
       undoubtedly put good coaches off.

Thing is, there surely aren't that many 'senior players' who
would have that kind of influence on the club management are
       there?
Brown - hard to read as he's always grumpy when things aren't
going well and doesn't say much or do media appearances.
Possibly wasn't a Gustard fan but doesn't seem the type to stir
       up a revolt.
Robshaw - gone, was on the way out for ages (and extended his
stay) so opinion unlikely to have had much influence
Marler - seems outwardly somewhat positive towards Gustard...
       Maybe?
DC - IMO the most likely to have been stirring things up as has
most to lose from a rigid defensive game plan, given his playing
style. Also not shy about his opinions in the media and renewed
contract as soon as Gustard left
Ashton - presumably an old buddy of Gustard who brought him in.
Not around long enough to have an opinion.
Coaches - I'd guess that Nev at the very least is not a fan
given the contrast in styles and his relationships with players
So my gut feeling on zero evidence is that Gustard knew it
wasn't working out and his contract renewal was looking iffy, so
he started looking for a job knowing that at least DC/Nev were
pushing for him to go, backed up by Smith's agent looking for
contract leverage and Marler/Brown being at best 'neutral' if
       not also detractors.
Overall doesn't seem that mysterious to me given LD also has a
bit of a relegation safety net to make some big changes to the
       club (and save cash)

A poster has made up that there is a clique, senior player
powerbase, backstabbers, whatever, and some people now seem to
be taking that as fact. There is no evidence for it.
Who are the senior players? Brown is probably leaving. Marler
seemingly holds Gustard in high esteem - see his latest social
media post and apparently his book (not read it). Care - not
sure, probably not a fan of the coaching ethos, even if he likes
the person. But he's at the end of his career. You wouldn't
choose Care over your DoR if it was a straight choice. Ashton
isn't really a senior player given his time at the club and
they'd have known for a while that he was unsettled. Lewies was
brought in by Gustard and made captain. Louw and Estherhuizen
also brought in by him. Not sure about Symons.
All this talk of back-stabbing, poisoned chalices, etc, sounds
       pretty far fetched.
Gustard talked a good game but didn't get the results. There
wasn't a clear game plan and our defence and discipline were
awful. The players must take a lot of the blame, but so must he.
Ultimately he could / should have dropped players if they
       weren't following his orders.

this area and how the 2 of them got on I have no idea.
