It seems to me he went to Quins and said I’ve got another job
lined up I’m off.Not how I read the statement from Laurie.
My guess is he knew he wasn’t cutting it at Quins and perhaps
realised the job was beyond him.
What’s more the Quins job is only half a DOR.Whether he will
ever make a premiership DOR again is very open to doubt.
Having failed with JK(board decision)we took a chance with
Gussie having never been a half DOR and he failed. How far that
was management’s failure I don’t know but ultimately it’s their
responsibility and we are absolutely no further forward.Laurie
you have one chance to get this right.

Well that is some statement - bit different to the usual thanks
for everything and best wishes guff!
Like many others I can't help but feel his job was to create a
vision and set the tone. If players were not putting it in for
him then he has had 30 odd months to do something about it. I
can't understand the inferences in the statement that seem to
blame others...surely when applying for the job he knew the job
description. If he didn't like it when BM was brought in then
that's the time to leave and throw toys etc.
I was reading Marler's book the other day and Marler talks
fondly of Gustard but there is an entry I found fascinating.
It's all about Quins putting up a picture of Marler in the
tunnel opposite the away changing room. Marler isn't happy with
the picture selected (reasons given seem very reasonable to me)
and rings PG to ask for it to be changed. Rather than changing
it PG seems to just ignore/laugh off Joe's request. Struck me as
a really funny thing for Gustard to do. One of your senior
players asks politely for something to be done and it's not
done. Weird bit of man management by Gustard and I wonder if
that gives us an insight into his lack of man management skills.
Brilliant coach when it's all about hitting tackle bags and
being a wolf pack in D....perhaps not the best man manager when
it comes to being a DOR trying to get the best out of his
       players.

No ‘class’ indeed - he will continue to fail to inspire others
with an attitude like that. It really such as shame that the
club finds itself in this position through ‘backing the wrong
       horse’

To be fair, most new coaches come up with something like this
when they join - sounds similar to what he said when he joined
       Quins.
I'm not sure we've heard the last of this. How long has he been
looking for an escape, I wonder...

Yeah. Arrogant and abusive. And on another board someone (who I
have no reason to distrust) revealed that Gustard had been
belittling coaches in front of everyone, and that that sort of
       treatment is why Codling left.

To be fair Codling must have an awful lot of reasons for leaving
