HARLEQUINS CAN CONFIRM THAT SCOTTISH DUO JAMES LANG AND GLEN
YOUNG WILL JOIN PRO14 SIDE EDINBURGH AT THE END OF THE 2020/21
SEASON
Lang, 25, heads to Scotland after five seasons at The Stoop,
having joined ahead of the 2016/17 season from Rugby Gogledd
Cymru in North Wales. Earning over 70 appearances for the Club
to date, Lang went on to gain his first Scotland cap in the
summer of 2018 after an impressive 2017/18 season at The Stoop.
Commenting, Lang said: “I have loved my time at Harlequins since
joining in 2016 in the company of some great players, coaches
and fans who have helped shape my career. Having such a strong
relationship with so many of the players and management, it made
it a difficult decision. However, I feel that it is the right
time for me to enter a new stage in my career. It was important
for me to leave on good terms, I owe a lot to Gussy (Paul
Gustard) and Snap (Nick Evans) for the time they put into
helping me improve my game and I have a lot of respect for them
and the other Quins coaches.
“I’m looking forward to challenging myself in a new competition
against teams I haven’t played before. But for now, there’s
still a job to be done this season. My sole focus is performing
for Harlequins for the rest of my time at the Club.
“The Stoop has been home for me for 5 years and will always hold
a special place in my heart. Before departing, I’d love nothing
more than to get the fans back in before the end of the season
so I can play in front of a packed-out crowd once again. Thank
you for the memories.” #COYQ
A regular starter for the Club during the 2020/21 season to
date, Jedburgh-born Young returns to Scotland having left his
native country to join Premiership rivals Newcastle Falcons as a
teenager, signing for Harlequins ahead of the 2019/20 season.
Commenting on his return home, Young said: “I have loved my time
playing at Quins. I’m very grateful to the coaches who have
shown faith in me and given me a lot of game time and helped me
develop a lot as a player. It is a privilege to be able to play
with the calibre of player we have at this club, and that is
something I have really enjoyed.
“I will continue to give my all for the Club for the rest of the
season and hopefully be able to play in front of the Quins fans
again before my time is up.”
Head of Rugby Paul Gustard said: “First and foremost, we will
miss both Langy and Chugger as people. They both have
enthusiastic and positive personalities that energise the group.
They have both contributed massively to an evolving squad, we
wish them the very best. As sad as we are to see them go for
their own personal circumstances, we are thankful for their
contribution to the Quarters.
“Langy has an infectious personality and is a joy to coach. He
has grown considerably as a player and has made the breakthrough
into international rugby during his time at the Club; which I’m
sure he will look to cement up north of the border. He has
played some fantastic matches for us, with an aggressive and
confrontational running style, huge metronomic boot and a
beaming smile. I’m sure he will be a success in the next part of
his journey.
“Big Chug has developed well over the two seasons with us and we
have started to see more of the potential we spotted at the
Falcons. He has a competitive advantage at lineout with his
incredible athletic ability and has applied himself with
feedback to develop other aspects of his game and improve his
physical conditioning. I know Sofia and little Vinny will be
relishing returning home and we wish Glen and his young family
the very best as he looks to kick on from his growth here at
Harlequins.”

Shame about Lang but understandable if he wants to further his
international credentials. Didn’t expect Young to leave, after a
rough start I have been impressed with him over these last few
weeks. It does leave us slightly short in the second row with
only Lewies and Symons confirmed for next season. Can’t see
Cuvabati getting an extension and Lamb can’t seem to stay fit.

I think two players with Scotland aspirations moving to
Edinburgh doesn’t reflect that assertion at all

Shame about Young, he is turning into a more than decent Second
row.
I was very critical of him when he arrived and his first season.
However, he seems to have really grown his all around game.
Good luck to both of them, I will always remember Langs winning
points away at gloucester. A great away win!
It seems that Gustard is turning the big screw. Big player clear
out next year and I expect a lot of South Africans to be signed
and youth promoted. Let's hope he starts to blood the youngsters
this season!!!!

Come on, it seems like there is a civil war going on behind the
season. Lots of players leaving, 1st teamers asking for a
transfer (Allegedly).
Gustard will seemingly really have his own squad next year if
all of the player rumors come true!
