Red card

I genuinely could not see the incident as my video quality was
poor.
I have seen that a lot of people appear to be in the same boat
as me.
Did anyone see clearly what happened?

Clear cheap shot elbow to the face from what I could see. Cast
iron red card and I presume that unless there's another angle
that somehow shows something mitigating then he'll cop a minimum
4 game ban, and maybe 6 to 8.

On the subject of red cards, I would hope that when the opposing
player (in this case Evans) can't continue the match then no
discount is applied to the ban. I've no idea if this is how it
works in practice currently.

They showed a magnified shot of the incident in the after game
analysis and it clearly shows him jab his elbow into the players
face. A cheap shot and no argument over the red card. This goes
on a lot but is usually missed but with cameras everywhere and a
particularly sharp eyed TMO you shouldn’t do this sort of thing
anyway.

Evans went off for a HIA. A key question will be whether he
sustained the head injury that dazed him when making the tackle
or when Esterhuizen elbowed him in the face.
1). If the head injury occurred in the tackle - he did go in
awkwardly - then Esterhuizen will have elbowed a man already
injured.
2). If the head injury did not occur in the tackle then
Esterhuizen's elbow to the face was the cause.
Neither of these looks good and there seem to be few mitigating
factors.

Plain stupid and unnecessary is how I see it. We'll be without
him for a few weeks for sure, deservedly so. And he was settling
in so well too.

He looked fine immediately after the tackle and seemed to have
successfully avoided banging his head. There's no excuse for the
elbow, it looked deliberate and clearly did a lot of damage.

Completely indefensible. It wasn’t a reckless swing arm, it was
a deliberate elbow direct to the face of a player lying on the
ground. Serious ban coming at think ...

I’m not sure that I want thugs wearing our colours.
The citing commission will decide whether or not he has
transgressed

Tbh, I am not going to be shouting "thug" or "hang him". I
really could not see anything clear. I don't think the ref saw
it either. So I am not alone. Either way, I distrust slow motion
long lens shots.
So, let the citing commission sort it out. They can take a
balanced look.
I started the thread as I didn't have sound and the picture was
poor, so I really could not see any reason that he got a red.
