HEAD OF RUGBY PAUL GUSTARD HAS NAMED THE TEAM TO TRAVEL TO
GLOUCESTER THIS WEEKEND AS CHRIS ASHTON RETURNS TO FITNESS TO
       START AT FULLBACK
Harlequins travel to Gloucester in the search for back-to-back
wins at Kingsholm Stadium, having claimed a 28-15 win in round
20 of the 2019/20 season earlier this year.
Number eight Alex Dombrandt leads the side once more with
regular Club captain Stephan Lewies narrowly missing out through
injury, with the back row having captained Quins during a
record-breaking 49-29 victory over Northampton Saints at
       Franklin’s Gardens last weekend.
Returning to fitness, Ashton starts at fullback in place of the
rested Mike Brown, alongside wingers Cadan Murley and Nathan
Earle, in an otherwise unchanged backline from the side that
       travelled to Northampton.
In the pack, flanker James Chisholm is rotated into the side at
blindside having featured from the bench last time out, with Tom
Lawday rotating into the side’s Impact Players this weekend.
Also amongst the Impact Players, Samoa international hooker Elia
Elia returns to the matchday 23 having served a suspension for
receiving a red card against Wasps towards the end of the
       2019/20 season.
Commenting ahead of this weekend’s fixture live on BT Sport 1,
Sunday December 7, 16:15 kick-off, Gustard said: “A trip to
Kingsholm is always a great place to play rugby. Gloucester have
a lot of talent, a lot of good players, and we’re very much
looking forward to facing them on Sunday.
“Stephan Lewies just misses out on selection this time around
due to injury. In his absence, we felt that Alex [Dombrandt] did
a magnificent job captaining the team in a good performance last
weekend against Northampton Saints, so he will once again wear
       the captain’s arm band.
“James Chisholm is rotated in at six for the outstanding Tom
Lawday, who moves to the Impact Players on rotation as James
continues his rehabilitation from the injury that ruled him out
of the final two games of last season.
“It’s great to see Chris Ashton, like James, return from injury
this week. We’re looking forward to seeing him play in the
absence of one of our standout performers last week in Mike
Brown, who is rested this week against Gloucester.”

       We're gonna get mullered.
       (It is the Way)
But more seriously, that's a good side all things considered and
a good bench. I assume that Green is our FH cover - slightly
worried that we seem to be short of depth there. I like the idea
that we can get Andre to go flat out for 60 minutes and then
replace him with Lasike, and Tizard has done enough in his very
limited time so far that he inspires confidence from the bench.

Certainly a capable side, but the real test is to see if we are
consistent and are able to put in a good performance once again.

We should really be targeting their scrum seeing JFR on the
loosehead side - he's usually a tighthead. And if Marcus brings
his A game then the head-to-head at 10 should be a relative
stroll too - especially as we can send Esterhuizen down Evans'
channel for an hour and then bring on Lasike...
This is Quins though, so we'll most likely find ways of losing
       the game!

The prospect of Lasike and Esterhuizen on the same pitch is
incredibly exciting- wondering if they would slot in the
centres together or if Murley would be brought into the 13 slot
and Esterhuizen pushed back to fullback. Very relieved to see
Symons back and hopefully Young can deliver again like he did
       last week.

Good to see Ashton involved again. Exciting backline, especially
when you consider Brown and Marchant are not even in the squad.

No real arguments in terms of selection. Would like to have seen
Tizard starting but can understand why PG has gone for Young's
       experience from the outset.
Two good sides, although I think our bench has the edge.
Fingers crossed we show the same mindset and approach as last
       weekend. COYQ!

I like the overall balance in our starting 15, although we could
have don with Marler back from England duty and Lewies to be
fit. It seems to be a genuine rotation on the back row, but I'm
beginning to think that Evans is going to be a key figure in
Gussys plans, so I expect he's not going to be rotated as much
       as others.
The backs are a shaping up into a good unit overall, with
Esterhuizen & Northmore working well last week. It'll be good
competition for places when Marchant is back and Campagnaro fit,
and competition for places will help to push them all on. Steele
needs to back up his performance last week to show he's
       challenging DC.
My one concern is FH. Smith is showing why he's considered
class, but with Herron injured, can we really rely on a new
Utility Back to fill in from the bench or if needs be start a
game? Lang's quite likely to be away with Scotland for parts of
the season, and if EJ decides he wants to see more of Smith, we
need to know that Green is a capable stand-in at this level.
