Looking at it from the clubs perspective maybe those 200 seats
will pay towards increased staff costs
If the option was can’t afford to open for 2000 with Covid
measures in place unless we realise 200 for general sale, I’d
understand, it just seem to have not been communicated very well

That would be a fair point if they were selling them for much
more than the standard seat price, but they're not! It only
seems to work specifically if unlucky members don't ask for
their cash back.
Basically...
1 Premium seat + no member requests a refund = £70-odd extra
revenue for the club.
1 Premium + 1 member requests a refund = £30-40-ish (?) extra
revenue for the club.
1 Premium + 2 members request a refund = Reduced revenue for the
club.
Given that at most there's likely to be a couple of hundred
premium seats, and 5000+ disappointed members, unless I'm
missing something obvious, then it seems like insanity?

Sounds like what I'd expect. I'm sorry to say that this story of
thing is exactly why I didn't give them any money up front for a
season ticket. It was pretty clear that they would not be able
to fulfill their side of the contract and provide me with a seat
to sit on while watching rugby. So I haven't paid for a season
ticket, if and when games are allowed in front of a reasonable
size crowd and the club can guarantee us seats it might be a
different matter.

I got a very nice reply from James Swanson (Manager, Customer
Experience)
... (usual thank you for supporting us, difficult times, humbled
by response) ...
As well as the support from our Season Ticket Members, we are
also extremely grateful to our loyal Partners, Sponsors and
Corporate clients who, as long-term supporters of the Club and
many of whom are also Season Ticket Members, have continued to
support us throughout, often financially. As part of our
commitment to serving all our supporters and partners, we have
created a Premium Ticket offer to utilise the small proportion
of seats in front of our Hospitality boxes that are usually sold
as Hospitality seats.
We have purposely targeted our promotion of these tickets to our
known contacts who have supported the Club over the years,
including our existing Hospitality and Commercial partners – the
majority of whom are also Season Ticket Members and several who
we are contractually obligated to offer tickets to.
I would like to make clear that we are absolutely committed to
maximising the number of Season Ticket Members who feel
comfortable coming to the ground, and are delighted to be in a
position to welcome supporters back to The Stoop. However I feel
it important to also point out that, in reality, fixtures with
reduced crowds are not financially viable in the long-term, and
to ensure we are able to recover from the huge financial
challenge the Club and rugby faces, we cannot simply ignore some
commercial opportunities that deliver much needed revenue to the
Club.
I would also like to clarify that you of course have the
opportunity to upgrade to Premium Tickets should you wish, and
that the proportionate value of your Season Ticket Membership
for the chosen fixture would be discounted off the Premium
Ticket cost.
So he doesn't actually say this reduces the amount of chances
for STHs, but that's how I read it. We can make more money by
screwing STHs and targetting Hospitality. That's what we need to
do. In all fairness, he's probably not wrong except... except
it's the STHs are the backbone of this club (am of course
including debentures in this). Hospitality, sponsors, commercial
partners - ephemeral. Here today, gone tomorrow (or in a couple
of seaons time). I reckon I've supported Harlequins since about
1990. That's thirty years of thick and thin (mainly thin!). That
is literally about half my life (with a bit of rounding). Show
me the Partners, Sponsors and Corporate clients who have made
that commitment and I'll admit they have a right to tickets.
I can see they have to try and keep everyone onside. I get that.
Sponsors aren't going to be happy with zero chance of watching a
game. But wouldn't it have been more honest to just tell us STHs
that total number of tickets in the STH ballot is 2000 - premium
tickets sold, rather than try and pretend it's 2,000? Wouldn't
it have been nice to say "the maximum amount of premium tickets
we will allow is Y"? Instead I have no idea what my chances in
the ballot are.

"I would also like to clarify that you of course have the
opportunity to upgrade to Premium Tickets should you wish"....
This reminds me of the awful Chesington World of Adventures
policy which also costs lots of money for a basic ticket and
requires a substantial upgrade to get the Premium experience.
Stay at home, take the refund.

At the Bath game I thought the figure of 4000 included, all
staff etc
So Greek would be better if they said 1800 for STH will be
available, or confirm if the 2000 is on top of all staff in
ground

But only if you know Greek; and it's tricky.

There are upwards of 300 match day staff, incl teams and support
staff, stadium staff and BT Sport contingent. At the Quinssa
meeting with Quins Mgt we were told they are not included in the
2000. This will be purely supporters in seats.
