Fair play to him, I know he's been a name that people love to
moan about, but after hearing him on ref mike all the way
through a game, you do get to understand how well he refs the
game and how he gets on well with the players while still being
a good ref. Much as I'd like him to ref the RWC final, I hope he
doesn't have the chance due to England being one of the
finalists!

It’s just wasn’t about you Barnes.....actually, in the last
season or two he has improved significantly the balance of
imposing himself and letting it all flow.

I like him. He was persona non grata for a while after the
ridiculous "ball's out" pen against Will Skinner, but since
those days he has improved immeasurably.

I've always considered him to be one of the best refs in the
world. No complaints - great career in a very uncompromising
role. Sometimes you'll make the wrong calls - you're human after
all - but you can't ever accuse him of not having conviction or
shirking responsibility.

One of the most ridiculous ref decisions that I've ever seen.
Guess I should just get over it after all these years, but I
still can't escape the thought that he wants to be the star
rather than the players

He's superb, we should be very pleased to have the best in the
world - shame he's retiring. Can understand why - gets a shot at
the World Cup Final next year (let's be honest, England won't be
in it) - go out on the pinnacle.
If it means he does even more TV analysis that can only be good
- he's great on Rugby Tonight.

I'd rather he carried on for another few years to be honest. The
standard below him isn't anywhere near as good.
