What has changed since JK left
DIR By: SiB

Seeing various comments about coaches out, poor kicking etc
Can anyone say what has changed so much from JK leaving ?
We got thumped last night
Previous prem game we had a fairly narrow win over the worst
team in the premiership last season
The previous games at the Stoop
32-22 to Wasps
38-15 win over Irish
41-27 loss against Bath
30-17 win over Saints
Gustard made the comment ahead of last nights game that we have
only been top four in 3 seasons, so let’s admit we are a mid
table team that occasionally gets a shock result and be happy
with that? Of course not
Looking at the last two seasons finishing places there was some
signs of hope ( although last season with Sarries not a true
reflection)
Read somewhere that Gustard loss rate is now higher than JKs.
But if we bring someone else in do we have another 3 seasons of
“ Building”? and be in the same place after “ Building”
Or do we have to face facts that we don’t have the money to
compete with the big boys, is it that simple?

To my mind it is very little to do with money. As JK always said
we won the Premiership as the players were so committed to each
other as a team and worked so hard together and with such
commitment the season we won.
Just bringing in expensive players does not solve the problem,
they have to be really committed to the cause and work ethic of
the team and coaches.

I agree with Monte.
It isn't about buying high profile players.
Get a group of players. Make them work as a team; and get them
uber-fit.
Basically, I know we all love to hate sarries, but they are a
good team. The key thing that they did was they instilled
the'team' philosophy. I see that chiefs have done the same
thing.

Third season for Gustard now. Make or break time.
What I worry about are his man management skills. A few too many
high profile departures in both the coaching staff (Codling,
Long) and playing side (Gabs, Sinckler). The team don't look
like they are having fun. Would we have been better off with a
real motivator like Ben Ryan coupled with some experienced
forwards and defence coaches?

Monte, Never Sleep
So it’s not the money Ok
Looks like the players are fit, heard Gustard on about a lot of
work “ Off the pitch”
So is it we have players that aren’t “ Club players “ but just “
Journey men” ?
We also appear to loose a few coaches in no time is it because
they just don’t see eye to eye with Gustard and maybe the
players are in the same frame of mind
Comment from Gustard post match about the 5 areas they had to
work on to beat Exeter, sums up a lot

Well Gustard has a high turnaround of players. He quickly
cleared out the likes of Walker, Wallace, Ward - Visser ok he
retired but didnt get many games. A couple of coaches have
quickly come and gone. Sinkler followed the money - was that the
only reason? Robshaw left rather than finish his career under
Gustard. Gabs gone and now rumours of Smith off. We have an ever
growing SA contingent.
Managing people is tough. Gustards selection and rotation policy
is often baffling
Players seemed to thrive under Deano and Connor management.
Gustard came with no previous top job experience. I know it’s
early doors again but I wonder if all is well with morale aside
from the spin?

I think that could be twisting it a little bit. Im pretty sure
Gabs left due to money, Robshaw, I would say also left for a
decent sum and the chance to live/play abroad (Plenty worse
places than San Diego). As for Smith, again its just a rumor
currently

I don't think too much has changed. There's probably a little
more consistency and the poor performances are not quite as bad
as they were. I suspect most of our problems are in the minds of
the players and that they were under JK. I can't say that I ever
wonder about Gustard's coaching ability though and don't get the
impression there are any particular issues behind the scenes as
it always seems like a pretty happy camp. Bearing in mind
Gustard's career path I am far more likely to trust his
judgement than anyone else's currently involved, although that's
not to say he's infallible.

As I have posted elsewhere for me it is the whole team
ethos/performance that is the problem no one went on to the
pitch last night to play badly but mistakes happen. It is the
way you deal with them that makes a team great. I know COS drove
us mad with his positivity but Gussie did not mention any
positives last evening. He just seemed disillusioned and for the
first half we were still right in it.

He did say that for the first 65 we were in it. TBH, I dont
really care what PG (or anyone else says during interviews).
Its why I dont understand why some get so bent up on Eddie Jones
interviews. Its all about what goes on behind the scenes for
me.
