I don't know how much we can read into this from a Quins point
of view. We were playing the best team in Europe with barely any
pre season and we kept them at 3-12 until about 15 mins to go.
Some of our defence was ok. I'm not saying we played well but
there were some turning points based on individual errors, such
as Garcia Botta for Exeter's second try and Ridley not at least
going to TMO for Quins' try. Will see what we're like in the
       next couple of league games.
That aside there's been some bizarre criticism of Northmore on
here. Did people only listen to the analysis of the Exeter first
half try and not watch the rest? Barring that error, he was
great. His line speed and reading of Exeter's play was
commendable and he almost always broke the tackle ball in hand.
Don't like Ridley as a ref. His officiating at the breakdown was
crazy inconsistent. And he missed a fair few high tackles by
       exeter.
       Deserved win for Exeter though.

crossing decision to rule out Northmore's try was harsh. The
wheels came off as they exploited our obvious weakness in maul
defence. We're not as bad as that scoreline would suggest.

Just trying to think through our other scoring opportunities....
And no, the crossing wasn't harsh, it was very obvious.

Usually it's accurate, but they played a far more expansive game
than we did today. Only at the end when they kept getting pens
       did they revert.

       Hugely disappointing result.
We competed well and defended well but must stop making mistakes
that cost us so much. The disallowed try was a sickener after
some good work. That said, the collapse felt inevitable after
       the third try.
       Oh Quins!!!!!
Some positive carries from individuals but we need to attack as
a team. Our defence seemed pretty good with some good line speed
and unity. Until we lost it.

It did seem as though because Exeter are World Champions they
must get the 50/50 or 40/60 calls . All Chiefs needed to do was
get a line out inside the 22 and 7 points guaranteed. We
deserved at least a LBP for effort. I could sense frustration
because our gameplan wasn’t working. They snuffed out anything
we tried. They aren’t double Champions for nothing.

       In what respect?
Did you see any inventive, attractive rugby from them? They did
what they do, kick to the corner, catch and drive.

       Oh dear.
       Positives
       Effort
Line speed and open play defence
       Lineout mostly worked
       Ermm that's it
       Negatives
       Discipline
       Discipline
Maul defence only slightly less useless
Scrum systematically nudged back in our own ball
       Attack hopeless
       Discipline
       Dull kicking game
       Incompetent at dull kicking game
Crossing by Dombrandt (rightly penalised for the try, got away
       with another in midfield later)
       Attack really hopeless
       Did I mention discipline?

They were pretty good though. Boring or not. They do pay very
well. The only area where it wasn't working for them was the
line-out. We did a pretty good job of disrupting that. I also
thought that we generally did well at the scrum and a couple of
calls could have gone the other way.

Ugh. I was vaguely happy with that after 60-odd minutes, at
least the attitude and defensive capabilities were there. Then
       they weren't.
Marcus had an absolute shocker, discipline was really poor, but
just falling away like that is not acceptable.
Terrible ref too, we had to work ridiculously hard to get
anything at the breakdown, he gave zero offsides all day, and
let us get away with lots of forward passes.

No, but I saw some rugby from them. We kicked the ball
relentlessly to them, and showed no other opportunities to score
than the try rightly ruled out for crossing. Rodney's right -
they reverted to form toward the end, but they played more rugby
       than we did today.
