I think you’re missing the point here. The discussion is not
about what the fans like to wear themselves, that is entirely up
to each individual, but, more importantly, how OUR team looks on
the playing field. For a club with such a long and proud
history, a major part of which is the Quarters, to turn out each
season with one or more different playing strips is losing the
sense of continuity and pride in OUR traditions and history.
You can call me old fashioned or whatever else you want, but I
would like to feel that the century plus pride in the Quarters
would pass on a similar sense of pride and determination in the
players every time they pull on their shirts for every match,
       home and away.

You are right, there will be another next season...but based on
the previous efforts, it won't be pretty! Shirt sales are
another revenue stream that the club would I am sure like to
have more of, but if the shirts don't sell, the revenue doesn't
       come in.
I also don't like the implication that the "proper" shirt is
"retro". That implies that the days of the quarters are done
with, or at least the normal quarters and correct pantones are
done with. It's a bit like other teams with their various hoops
and stripes - there was nothing wrong with the traditional
       designs that were instantly recognisable.

       No, you're over-thinking it. Retro means it's a long-sleeved
shirt with a collar, with the classic quarters, and in a
different material to the matchday replicas.
The quarters are one of the most marketable aspects of our kit
and something instantly recognisable for the club - they're not
       going anywhere.

Except there was. My understanding is that if a shirt is too
generic it can’t be subject to copyright laws. Taking England as
an example, anybody can make and sell a white shirt with a red
rose on. For the RFU to protect the official design (and
therefore their revenue streams) it needs to have a distinctive
rose (which is a trademark, I think) and be a distinctive design
of shirt. Hence the touches of red, etc.
So for commercial reasons, the shirt needs to be “designed” and
thereafter there is a further commercial argument to keep
       changing the design.
Quins are possibly an exception as there are few shirts in
quarters and the colours were so specific.
However, I would guess that if we (as the Amateurs) created a
shirt through a different manufacturer which was an exact
replica of the current Adidas shirt, there would be legal
ramifications. Especially if we sold it to the general public.

No, you'd be fine - if it looks anything like the current third
shirt, no-one would buy it anyway! ;)[emoji38]

You would think that there are enough colours in our home kit
that you could keep them or a combination of them for any other
shirts produced. Even adding white wouldn’t offend me as our
last couple of second kits that I liked had our full colours on
       a predominantly white jersey.

Third kit’s gone down really well amongst the 1st/2nd XV
       players. Me included.
The red shirt had more of a mixed reaction.
