Quins Back Row
DIR By: AJQuin

So in less than 48 hours our first game of the new season will
be over. Looking at our squad I can’t help but feel we are
seriously slim at back row. To my knowledge the first team squad
has 5 full time back rowers in:
James Chisholm
Alex Dombrandt
Will Evans
Tom Lawday
Archie White
Given you’d normally have four in a match day 23 this seems a
real concern in depth. I know you can throw in Dino Lamb but he
seems to be destined for the 2nd row.
With today’s announcement of a fifth scrum half we will now have
as many 9s as we do 6s, 7s and 8s combined!
I really hope we have some decent depth signings coming as we
are two injuries away from a crisis!

For god’s sake tell Paul Gustard; he needs to know these things!

Sorry I should have made it clear that was copy and pasted from
my text to Gussy earlier.

W'ere ridiculously light at 6 and 7 and I'm sure we'll add
another flanker. Presumably short term deals or youngsters given
current finances.
I recall Gustard saying that they see Jurevicius's long term
future at blindside rather than lock.

Ah yes I had forgotten Jurevicius was signed and earmarked as a
flanker. So if we include Matas and Dino that’s 7, still seems a
little short to me.
Oh I guess Marcus can also fill in there!

And Kenningham

I have the same concern. Obviously there is the rumour re. de
Carpentier, but I can’t say that excites me.
We’ve been linked with a few back row players in the past few
months but nothing has really come to fruition.
Given the financial situation at the moment, I get why there
hasn’t been a big name acquisition. I’d be comfortable with a
short-term option to give us time to plan for a proper solution
but in the meantime, I’m hoping Archie White is a lot better
than I remember. Kenningham has usually looked good when he’s
had an opportunity so I’d be keen to see if he can make the step
up.

If you look at clubs like Wasps, they have been playing their
talented young hookers Alfie Barbery and Gabriel Oghere at 6 and
7 last season.
If need be, I wonder if Gustard will relay on youngsters such as
Musk to fill in at 6 if need be.
I can also imagine that the clubs are looking at bringing
someone in. At least they are not just signing anyone, hopefully
trying to get the right person. Or will sign an Injury
replacement if anyone falls down.

I hope Keningham gets a chance. I really liked the look of him
in the A league.

Think Musk is significantly smaller than both the young Wasps
hookers, would be surprised if Gustard was looking at him to
play in the back row.
