Why? He played out of position and did nothing wrong. Made all
his tackles, chased kicks and made an excellent break in the
only time he was passed the ball in a flowing backs move, only
for the more experienced player he passed it to take the wrong
option. A chip off the outside of the foot back inside to the
open space would have been Slade's better option rather than
down the line. Merchant did what was asked if him on a really
grotty afternoon with a fly half who whacks everything.

It looked like a typical chucking it down with rain performance
to me. Territory, keep it tight and no fancy stuff. Not very
exiting if the scores aren’t close.

IMO Slade didn’t have a particularly strong game which may help
Marchant.

I agree with pretty much all of the above comments and am
concerned that we're going backwards since the World Cup under
Eddie Jones. His selection seems to be predicated on who has
performed well in the past regardless of current form and his
insistence in picking players out of their normal position is
arrogant and frustrating when there are better options in the
squad. He seems to pick a team to combat the strengths of the
opposition rather than imposing an attacking gameplan and style
of our own ? Farrell has been woeful the last 2 games although
I'm sure he's following tactical orders kicking away so much
possession to try to gain territory - why we feel the need to do
this against Italy and Georgia is beyond me whatever the weather
conditions. Apart from a couple of instances the whole backline
was anonymous. I'm getting really bored watching England
performances dominated by kick-chase, driving mauls and scrums.

I’m hoping Ford is back next week. Farrell is fine if you want a
pre-planned move executed, but as for ‘heads-up’, rugby, you may
as well forget it.
Unfortunately with the squad picked and Ford injured, Farrell
was the only serious option at 10. Shame Smith or Simmonds
didn’t get a shot.

If we ever needed evidence for why England fans are branded as
‘arrogant’, this can be exhibit A.
Grand Slams are infrequent because they are very hard to
achieve. We certainly have the squad to be capable of Grand
Slam, but to suggest ‘anything less is not good enough’, shows a
hell of lot of naivety and a lack of respect to our opponents
IMO.
Yes, we have France at home, but poorer French sides than this
one have come to Twickenham and won. Also, ‘blues at home’,
means away trips to Dublin and Cardiff, which we can’t simply
expect to win, even if their form is indifferent right now.
If the schedule goes ahead in its usual window, I think it’s
unlikely fans will be permitted. That means the away trips might
be slightly less intimidating, but the same goes for our
visitors.
I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say we will be one of the
favourites to win, but no-one should be making statements where
‘anything less’ than a grand slam is ‘not good enough’ needs a
reality check.

I will a,ways support England but am pretty disillusioned these
days as I just don't understand what Eddie Jones overall, plan
is. Hopefully he has a clear vision.

I had a similar debate with a mate who claims that anything less
than a World Cup win would leave Jones’ tenure as a failure.
