Isn’t this a piece written in the same way as we might say how
Beauden Barrett would solve our fullback problems if Brownie
retired.

Jones has said that he will favour players who are playing at
the top table of the game. Umaga got to the Premiership final
and showed glimpses of potential. If Jones, uses this type of
thinking, then Joe Simmonds should be next.
It is up to Smith to drive the squad to be challenging for major
(Not the challenge cup, but that was a great start) cups and
Championships. Alternatively head to France, where his good mate
is playing and earn a lot of ££££ while broadening his horizons
and maybe coming back a better player in a few years. I hope he
stays and follows on as a club great, following the footsteps of
his contemporaries Brown, Care and Robshaw.

Eddie Jones says a lot of things. There will be a lot of change
in the current squad if that comes to pass.

Can't help but think of the quins wasps game where Smith looked
quality and chipped umaga for an epic try, then we handed the
game to them after a silly Elia red card.
No chance his selection over Smith was just down to this game
but would have contributed.
Would be a shame to see him go if this is true (albeit unlikely)
as he has worked hard at his game management this season and has
looked a much better player for it.

How do you know this so definitively? Is this the big reveal
that you are Eddie Jones? A LOT can happen in 3 years.

I think there’s three of them altogether and they all play in
different positions. Bit like the Robshaws at 6 , 6 1/2 , 7
possibly.

Bath interested in bringing in Harlequins star Marcus Smith
after losing Freddie Burns to Japanese side Shokki Shuttles
Caught this on the Daily Mail website. It was posted yesterday.
Bath have been sounded out about the prospect of signing
Harlequins fly-half Marcus Smith to solve their shortage of No
10s.
The West Country club have not replaced Freddie Burns for the
2020-21 season.
Smith agreed a cut-price contract with Harlequins in the summer,
but most players have exit clauses in their terms.
Bath director of rugby Stuart Hooper said: ‘Marcus Smith is an
outstanding player but he is under contract with another club
so, while we are often linked with quality players, I am keen to
make it clear that our focus remains on our squad heading into
the 20-21 season
