If, as many have said on here, owning your own stadium makes
more money than renting one why would selling that stadium be a
good thing?

that I agree that this is 'prime' land. Either Stoop could be
developed, but Twickenham is a backwater (find things to do/eat
on a Monday or Tuesday evening...) and the centre of London is
moving East. The smart money's elsewhere these days. You'll
get a decent sized residential estate on the site of Twickenham
Stadium, certainly, handily located in the shadow of Access Self
Storage, Howdens and the Summerwood Road Estate.

Not to mention the fact that the reason greater London has
always been 'prime' is due to the number of people needing to
live there to work and service the centre. I'm not saying that
the city is dead, but for the time being its hardly vibrant, so
until things improve real estate won't be the dead cert that it
was.

It makes no sense to move. At the moment the RFU get a profit
from any event taking place at the stadium. It's a prime target
for large concerts, being the second largest stadium in the UK
behind Wembley. If they sell it & ent somewhere while a new
stadium is built, they'd lose that revenue during the time of
renting while *at the same time* having to pay for the new
stadium build.
As for transport links, I doubt we'll see HS2 up & running to
the current timescale, given how "well" Crossrail is going!

Ask West Ham supporters about the so called benefits of selling
something a stadium you own and moving to something rented. In
normal times the stadium prints money. Move to rented and you
don't get anywhere near as much into the game.
On HS2 - the only place it'll stop near London aside from Euston
is Old Oak Common - which won't exactly be cheap land wise or
somewhere East of Birmingham in the Midlands. Also, it isn't
designed as a mass transit like the tube or even the commuter
elements of the so I'm not sure that would improve matters
hugely vs. what we have now.

On a smaller scale, London Scottish want to get their own ground
so they can keep all the revenue. They are tenants at Richmond
so are paying out more than comes in .

How about Coventry?

I think that QPR were hoping to build a stadium in Old Oak
Common but were knocked back.

If they moved Twickenham Stadium to Newcastle Upon Tyne (as far
North as I could go without being in Scotland), you'd have to be
pretty sure you could continue to pull in full houses and
maximum revenue. Not many businesses start somewhere, build a
loyal following and then shift lock stock and barrel somewhere
completely different.
