The death rate, while tragic (and tragically mishandled in the
early days), isn't the big health issue with COVID-19. Somewhere
between one quarter and one third of those who catch it suffer
long term health problems, some of which can be severe. I've
posted the stats higher in the thread. While we have been able
to improve the survival rate of the most severe cases, and the
deaths are concentrated in the older population, the longer term
issues seem to be affecting the young and healthy as much.
Absent a vaccine, we could be looking at 10-20% of the
population having long term issues before we reach herd
immunity.
The long term impact of that on the economy and people's overall
wellbeing needs to be balanced against the short term cost of
minimising the spread of the virus until we can get an effective
vaccine.

I think we need a different thread for this question.

Honestly it's a question that simply can't be answered right
now. And it's impossible to divorce it from COVID chat, for
obvious reasons.

I'm sure you can find "facts" produced by people with relevant
knowledge to support just about every opinion. That's the
problem. For instance I've listened to goodness knows how many
scientists using "facts" to argue how we should handle the
crisis and many of them have widely differing views on how to
proceed and some of the "facts" seem contradictory.
As I see it no one knows the best thing to do and all everyone
is doing (from the government down to the man/woman in the
street) is to pick the "facts" they like and base their opinions
on these.
As I said previously I just wish so many threads didn't veer
away from the subject in order to argue over this bl**dy virus.
We get enough of that elsewhere. At least if threads debating
the virus were clearly labelled people who couldn't care less
about others opinions on the subject could avoid them.
(Sorry not getting at you specifically Jammy!).

This is completely untrue, the vast majority of people who
contract COVID are virtually asymptomatic and have to the best
of our current knowledge no lasting health implications. This
has been shown through every piece of large scale random testing
research performed to date.

The article you've posted literally doesn't support the
assertion that you've made which is 25%-33% of people will have
long lasting health impacts as a result of COVID.
One paragraph reads: Data from the COVID Symptom Study, which
uses an app into which millions of people in the United States,
United Kingdom, and Sweden have tapped their symptoms, suggest
10% to 15% of people—including some “mild” cases—don’t quickly
recover.
So even ignoring asymptomatic cases the article suggests that
the range is 10%-15% and this is not recovering quickly - its
not even suggesting that these people have chronic health issues
as result.

Please note the original post subject and try to stick to that.
If you wish to carry on the current general CV-19 discussion
please take it to personal messaging or the "Everything Else But
Rugby" forum, where there's plenty of stuff on CV-19.
I'm not going to unwind "General CV-19 discussions" from the OP
in this thread, I'll simply lock this it if this continues.
So if anyone has something to add on the subject "First club to
fold" then please carry on.

Just which Clubs are actually at peril? Steve Diamond is saying
that the GP should be delayed till the New Year.

Teams that have had large crowds are bound to be hit hardest by
the lack of gate money, Tigers and Northampton are bound to feel
the hit more than say Wasps for example. Tigers currently are
well sponsored, but will that be sustainable for the businesses
doing the sponsoring?
Lower down is a big worry, my old club Leicester Lions seem to
be solid enough in National 2 South, but without RFU support,
travelling to the West Country or Guernsey could be prohibitive.
