Pretty sure that the redevelopment was dead in the water
pre-Covid when property developer CEO David Ellis stepped down.
And now there is absolutely zero chance of anyone investing 10's
of millions of pounds in a rugby stadium, whatever bells and
whistles are added on. Not to mention that HQ are desperate for
cash and don't want a competing, more modern venue across the
road.
Right now we'll be lucky if the Stoop isn't sold off to keep
Quins playing into 2022....

Best thing for Quins once everything gets back to normal, is to
redevelop the North Stand and mordernise the others to be able
to take on more events. Jumping from a 15,000 to a 25,000 venue
seemed ridiculous to start with.
By expanding the north that would tip the Stoop to around 17,000
and maybe a little bit of expansion here and there in other
areas can push the Stoop to 20,000 which should be sufficient.
Anything more than that and Quins can hire the Death Star across
the road if needs be.
For now though, the club has to keepo going, not sure how much
longer the owners will put up with the losses though.
The club was at the point of breaking even until the first wages
scandal by Saracens then the cap got push up so every club start
making losses (apart from Exeter) but even with the extended the
cap the club's losses started exceeding that which makes me
wonder what on earth David Ellis was spending the money on!

Of course there are many, but the government can support them in
other ways than by propping up loss making businesses, in the
case of Premiership rugby, or businesses with turnovers of
millions of pounds but no inclination to set any of that money
aside i.e. football.

RFU losing a fortune, Quins sell the Stoop move across the road,
use lower tier (don't have to open it all but can have very
affordable tickets at either end) ) extra revenue for RFU and
Quins have a different business model.

Hope that's a last resort. Would kill match atmosphere stone
dead.

Increasing the capacity of the North Stand increases revenue,
but not profit.
You need to increase the numbers of high value seats to increase
profit.
Ideally, a stadium needs to look more like Munster's stadium
with large numbers of seats between the 22s to make money.

This would be going back to the way it was before the Stoop.
Seems like a step backwards to me -I can't see the benefit as
there is no revenue stream for the club.
We would be like London Irish at the MadStad or Wasps at Adams
Park. Basically, no money to pay players salaries and teetering
on bankruptcy and with no option to dig yourself out.
Having your own stadium gives you a route out.

I think I am correct in saying that all the jewels are owned by
a company other than Harlequins RFC which leaves the actual
playing side in rather a vulnerable position.

The club is split into different companies so that if the player
side goes bankrupt creditors can't go after The Stoop, was how I
understood it.
