They might be cheating players but they play incredible rugby
when they want too. 22-3 up against Leinster at half time.

Saracens have built a team based on blatant cheating of the
salary cap. This went on for years. Wray financed all of it. You
cannot compare to any other team until all the cheats move on
and they rebuild following the rules.

On the radio I heard somebody saying that this is how good
Salarycens are without 9 of their top players who have left.
Thus not a cheating team. Two things, They qualified with a
cheat team. Up and till now have played in the current
competition with a cheat team. I don’t know why they are still
playing in any competition and affecting other clubs futures.

I watched the match today, hoping for a Leinster victory (by a
big margin). Unfortunately it didn’t go that way. I just don’t
want to see that club ever win a game for the damage they have
done to our sport.

What really rankled with me was the tone of self pity in the
Saracens interviews. While I feel sorry for the players who
weren’t directly involved at a personal level, the coaches and
many of the senior players knew what was going on and that it
was at the very least a severe bending of the rules they had
signed up to.
They systematically broke the rules for many years, and probably
deprived several other teams, Leinster included,of trophies as a
result. A little contrition or at least having the decency not
to talk about it would be a small measure of decency.
It didn’t help that the ref was flat out wrong in awarding just
a penalty for Rhodes’s tackle on Sexton. There were two clear
and distinct direct head and neck contacts - head to head and
arm to neck - and the WR protocol does not go below yellow for
direct contact, even with mitigation.
All of which said, with a reduced squad they did play some
amazing rugby yesterday.

As much as they offend and broke the rules in unprecedented
fashion, I find it hard not to admire or look positively at
sarries performance yesterday.
Another facet of why people don't like them is their mentality.
To date they have afforded that by paying for more marquee
players than anyone else.
However yesterday with a side that on paper looked weaker than
the pseudo Irish national team in Leinster, they still came away
with a W. Showing that age old mentality that people just cast
aside as being achieved from money. There was more than just
cash on show yesterday in their triumph.
Is that bit something to celebrate? They are an English team
with mainly English players after all.

What do you expect from a club where financial doping and
breaking premiership rugby rules is considered acceptable. It
starts from Wray and permeates righy through the club down to
the players.
I am also hating the media narrative around yesterday's result.
Plucky Saracens, shorn of 9 players from last year's final...
they're cheats. And worst of all they've failed to own their
mistakes.
They did play well yesterday, Duncan Taylor in particular who
apart from the crucial break/offload for the try optimised their
ethic and linespeed in defence. There is no doubting that
they're an exceptionally well drilled team and deserved the win.
Definitely should've been a yellow for Rhodes. Not deliberate
but poor technique (always starting to high).

In my mind there is no doubt that the breaches have been a key
facet in their development - a winning mentality and players
buying in to whatever they are asked to do for the team becomes
easier when winning. Generally people don’t question things when
winning and winning is easier when you have more high quality
players than others and allows greater rotation and then fresher
players all in turn, providing marginal gains
However, they still are a mighty team. There mind set and focus
is the stuff of Dreams compared to Quins.
Finally, they beat Leinster a team with easily as many financial
and player resources - the euro has not had a cap, so on this
stage I feel they can be a little less vilified.
Plus, I’d argue that despite of the breaches, they are still
better at talent ID and made more astute signings than most
teams during the last decade add in academy development and I’d
say the only real team to get close over a similar period has
been Exeter.
If we accept that the Sarries breach is bad bad bad and I do,
when teams look in the mirror they have to say “first was out of
the question due to cheating, but why were we not second then?”

The rugby paper today has various arguments for keeping Sarries
in the prem due to Covid-19, health risk to players in the
championship, and the now also
And now also appears to be a way back into Champions cup if they
win again
