I understand more what you are saying. The problem as I see it
is that we can’t just stop everything. I don’t want anybody to
die from this but it will and does happen all the time. There
are more things that are not Covid that might kill you but you
don’t worry about them because they aren’t the only thing in the
news. If people are worried about going to an event, don’t go.
If you are happy to risk it then we should be trying to get
things going again and look at the bigger picture and the
consequences of killing the economy.

In 2018, 616,014 people died in the UK, that's 1688 per day, the
deaths from/with Covid recently have been around 10 to 15 per
day, which very roughly 1% - give or take.

But back in April there over a 1000 deaths a day, by your
reckoning that was over 60% of the deaths were due to COVID.
When looking at pandemics and epidemics you can never look at
single points.
Also the death relate is increasing with 37 today. As the
disease did not exist this time last year then all these deaths
are additional deaths. Therefore those people who have died of
COVID would in all probabilities not have died.

I’m pretty sure they all would’ve died. Most people tend to.

Is there any reason you chose 2018? 2020 is the current year and
is the only time we've had these measures in place that reduce
death rates from all kinds of things.
For a while there thanks to lockdown and other things, COVID
wasn't killing many people. That's great! That doesn't mean it's
"only responsible for 1% of deaths" and therefore nothing to
worry about.

I think the 1% refers to the last month or so - certainly not
overall for the year.
It's a horrible thing if you're susceptible to it. Lockdowns
also kill - just in a different way and it's a horrendous
balancing act at the moment.

A large number of people are susceptible to it. Lots of people
have one of the prime "underlying health problems" - obesity.
And even if you don't die, getting COVD can be really bad for
you.
Lockdowns might kill, but we're talking an order of magnitude
difference. Lockdown brought us _under_ the usual deaths for the
year. It's a false equivalence.

I'm going to stop on this subject as I lost someone during
lockdown as a result of lack of access to care and another close
family member had recieved abominable care as a result of being
pushed from pillar to post. Obviously a bit biased on the topic.
So I'm going to leave it there for my own and everyone elses
sanity.

No probs Jammy. Lets just hope we have rugby back dominating the
board safely in the not too distant!
