Each of the exercises have been at different grounds, so each of
them is testing their own specific set up and facilities.
Why would the clubs be trying to hoodwink anyone? What on earth
would be their agenda in doing so? You sound like a lunatic.

But what are they testing? What is 'success'? What does that
then mean? Who is 'hoodwinking' anyone? What happens next?

The reason that the games after ours have been reduced to a 1k
limit is partly because HMG have reduced the limit due to an
increase in the R number in the last week or so. As Dr Miles
also says there will be different issues with different grounds
as well. You wouldn't be able to open up the Shed & West Terrace
at Kingsholm, for example, and Sixways would have an issue
opening up the stand with the changing rooms given the layout &
standing area.
These tests *do* have a use both for HMG and for the clubs. The
Government can get an understanding on how things like
transport, traffic & footfall outside arenas may need to be
handled as restrictions are lifted, while the clubs can use the
results to help plan what may be required as numbers are
increased. Are there sufficient toilets to allow for extra space
between "users"? If you know how crammed the loos are at the
North End of the East stand or the ones under the South stand at
half and full time, events like the one we had will help the
club plan what things to put in place. For instance they may
decide to put in place barriers to separate out the queue for
the loo from queues for the food outlets/cup returns points. The
best way to work out what you need to do is to run events like
this. It's normal to run reduced capacity test events when a new
public building is commissioned. I took part in one such test
event for Terminal 5 when that was near opening. Think of these
events like this and you can see why they are running them and
how they can be useful.

Fearless, I understand what you mean but T5 would have had a
clear objective. I expect something like - be able to manage n
amount of passengers with x criteria at set times of the day.
What I do not understand is what is the objective of these test
events? Is it to see if they can manage 1,000, 5,000, 10,000 ?
The R number is flawed to say the least as it moves about and is
based on non scientific criteria as part of its measurement so
whatever that moves to is not overly beneficial.

I will explain my hoodwink comment, let people in occasionally
you give hope for a return sooner rather than later, in the
meantime you are still receiving season ticket money on a
monthly basis or in a lump sump. If recent reports are to be
believed a vaccine isn't likely to be available until the end of
the 20/21 season. So realistically there won't be crowds big
enough for STH to all attend until 21/22 season. So clubs are
currently just trying to keep us all sweet.

East Sussex - there has never been a vaccine for any Corona. I
never expect to get one. So far it would be here by September
(now), November, end of the year, mid 2021. This is a nasty
virus but it seems quite obvious who is at risk - pretty similar
to those at higher risk of everything else and specifically flu
and pneumonia. Corona deaths now account for 1% of daily death,
flu and pneumonia account for 12%. We are now having more dying
from being stabbed in London than from Corona.

The crowds are being spread round different clubs to give each
of them the experience of running a crowd under the new rules.
Speaking of new rules, we started with 2,700 (a total of 3,000)
but then the rules were changed to 1,000 spectators. Not sure if
there's a cap on the coaches/physios/medics/water boys, but
maybe we could declare 14,800 water boys and we'd be fine!

But my local Soccer team is able to admit 400 to every game. we
have 300 sth so we can all get in. that works out about 10% of
capacity. So why can't Rugby admit 10%, they are playing games
with fans not carrying out trials, are they waiting for 500 out
of a 1000 to get covid at a game to say it doesn't work. Does
anyone know the object and desired outcome of these test events?

When I did T5, we were certainly nowhere near the same number of
people as were expected going through in an hour much less a
day. The idea is that you start relatively small. That's to make
sure that you don't get a catastrophic failure of the new
measures immediately. You test it out with a small load first,
then if all goes well, increase in increments until you get to
the required level. That way any kinks/issues are found without
overloading the systems and you can adjust as required as you
build up to full capacity. You wouldn't take a newly designed
Aircraft up into the air and immediately try to push it to it's
limits. You test and adjust. It's the same principle here.
Because the games are involving members of the public, they're
erring on the side of caution as to the numbers, but I would
expect them to slowly be increased (if allowed by HMG) as the
new systems & facilities become more robust.
