Two more Premiership matches given go-ahead for presence of fans
This follows successful pilot matches where crowds have returned

One thousand supporters will be allowed to attend two more
Premiership rugby matches later this month.
The West Country derby between Bath and Gloucester on September
22 and Bristol Bears’ meeting with Leicester Tigers have both
been named as part of a series of test events approved by the
Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
This follows Harlequins hosting 3,500 spectators on September 5
for their match against Bath Rugby. As with that game, and
Gloucester’s loss to Harlequins on Monday night at Kingsholm,
social-distancing measures will be in place. Home season
ticket-holders will make up the permitted capacity.
Darren Childs, chief executive of Premiership Rugby, saluted
some “magnificent” work behind the scenes.
“We are delighted that following the success of the first two
‘pilot’ matches at the Twickenham Stoop and Kingsholm, another
two Gallagher Premiership Rugby matches have been given the
green light from the government,” Childs said.
“This is testament to the magnificent job done by the teams at
both Harlequins and Gloucester Rugby. “We saw in those matches
how important it is for spectators to be present at live sport
and we value the trust that the government have placed in us for
additional pilot games.
“The health and safety of everyone involved in Premiership Rugby
is our only priority as we bring the sport back from lockdown
and that was evident at Kingsholm and the Twickenham Stoop. We
are pleased to be able to look to build on that success.”
Bath chief executive Tarquin McDonald declared his club
“privileged to be playing a significant role in the path towards
returning spectators to grounds across the country” and director
of rugby Stuart Hooper suggested that a local derby was a
fitting occasion to reintroduce supporters.
"Since rugby’s restart, we have played seven fixtures, six of
which have been behind closed doors,” he said. “In every single
game, particularly at The Rec, we have felt the absence of our
supporters.
"As a group, we have spent a lot of time creating energy in the
awareness there weren’t going to be crowds. There are times when
you expect to hear the crowd roar, and it’s not there. It will
be great to have supporters back, and it’s hugely exciting to be
playing in front of a small crowd at The Rec.
"It is particularly special that our supporters will be back for
a local derby against Gloucester.”

Unless I've missed something, this means robshaws last game will
be without a crowd? A real shame he won't get the send off he
deserves in his last game from the crowd.

Why pointless? it is something, it means clubs are testing the
safety measures in place and in turn get them more prepared for
when numbers increase.

Whats the point? If ours was a success why weren't the Irish and
Our games allowed to go ahead with 3,000 fans, this is a
pointless effort at a PR exercise that is not hood winking
anyone

What is the 'measure of success'? Getting 1,000 in tells you
what? - you can get 1,000 people into a sports ground? They get
many more than that onto the tube every day. Getting 10,000 into
the Stoop could be a target but again, what is it telling
anyone? Seats can be kept empty? Finding out if someone knows
how to use a (pointless) zapper gun to measure your temperature
as people now have no idea if they have a high temperature but
they have been able to do for many years as it was called an
illness and they stayed in bed?
This may sound flippant but has anyone ever published the
measure of success? Anyone ever published what happens next? For
example is it 5 of 1,000 trials equals moving to 5,000
attending...but again to measure what? When do we get to the
point of all going back as isn't a trial the start of the move
back to all going back?

If the intention is to prove that limited attendances,
socially-distanced, can be managed, all that that will end up
proving is that less than 50% of the capacity (in our case,
around 7,500 people) will be able to attend matches. What's the
point of that? I will not be going unless my family is able to
sit in our usual seats (that we have chosen and paid for) so if
Quins will be unable to deliver that, then give me my money back
now and I will forget the whole live rugby thing for a few years
and just watch on TV.

I'm sort of leaning towards that except that if there are no
crowds it appears there will be no live Rugby to actually watch
on TV...

Surely the measure of success is how many fans have or have not
gone down with the virus since attending The Stoop. Since I nor
any of my gang have been contacted by anyone to check on our
health it all seems rather facile.

Surely it is up to you to report to Quins if you test positive
(setting aside the problems of getting a test of course) rather
than expecting the club or anyone else to contact every attendee
personally to ask them how they are?
But if it helps how are you feeling Deadly?
