Team vs. Gloucester
DIR By: Quinston Churchill
Date: September 12, 2020, 11:34 am
---------------------------------------------------------
No thread yet, so I thought I’d create one ...
I’m assuming teams will be announced at noon tomorrow? In the
meantime, who do we expect to see?
I know we have the Cup Final on the 21st, but with a full week
turnaround I don’t think it would be too crazy to put out a
decent side on Monday. We’re likely to be playing Gloucester’s
best XV since they rested them in midweek, so if we send our 2s,
we’re going to get pumped ...
I’m assuming Marler, Lang, Ashton and Earle will be unavailable,
so injuries permitting, I’d expect to see something like:
1. Garcia Botta
2. Gray
3. Collier
4. Young
5. Symons*
6. J. Chisholm
7. Evans
8. Dombrandt
9. Steele
10. Smith
11. Morris
12. Esterhuizen
13. Marchant
14. Murley
15. Brown
16. Elia 17. Thomas 18. Louw 19. Lewies 20. Lawday 21. Landajo
22. Herron 23. Tapuai
*assuming he’s back?
That side is a mixture of those that played midweek plus those
that we rested. I’d love to see Esterhuizen start - he looked up
for it in his short cameo.
Even if Marler and Ashton are available, I’d be inclined to rest
them with the final in mind.

A one week turnaround is plenty, so we should go full strength
against Glaws.
Glaws have a powerful pack do i'd like to see Symons and Lewies
start.
Agree with resting Marler for the final would seem sensible.

Good thinking. That does look quite likely. Our backs would be
competitive but I would worry about our front row, a bit. First
choice seems to be Marler, Baldwin and Kerrod at the moment. I
would also want Lewies and Symons to play; let's hope they are
both available!

In an ideal world, yes, but Symons has been injured and Lewies
played the full 80 on Wednesday. We may have to make do this
round ...
If anyone needs a rest or is still recovering, I’d save them for
the final.
Judging by the training shots, Louw seems to be a full
participant so it could be a good opportunity to give him a run
out ahead of the final.

If that's the case then I'd rather see us go with Cavubati or
Hammond over Young. I think their size and power, rather than
Young's line out jumping, will be more important against Glaws.

Maybe. Slater and Garvey aren’t the tallest locks and
Gloucester’s lineout is not their strong point.

I'd start Louw.
He's pure beef and he is itching to go.
Yes he may not be over his travels and yes he still needs time
to settle in. But I'd rather see him in the first 20 mins and
then subbed, rather than rolling him out in the last 20 mins.
Slightly controversial maybe but he'd love it & what a start to
his Quins career.

I’d like to see Louw, but it’s harder to get up to speed as a
prop. It’s not just getting a feel for the scrummaging unit,
it’s also learning all of the lineout calls etc. More often than
not, props are the lifters, so he’d need to learn all of those
too. He’s a test calibre prop, so it’s not impossible he’s ready
to go, but I think it would be a risk to start him.

Nice selection. I thought that Lewies put everything into the
game on (when ever it was)...he looked completely cream
crackered.
I think that Dinno Lamb if he has passed his Protocals will make
a run out, he only got a good 15 mins the other day.
Gloucester rested almost their entire first 15 against Exeter, I
am expecting them to come out with their big guns, Cipriani,
Polderi, Thorley, Rees Zamet etc....
Away games at Kingsholms are one of my favorite away days.

Given there is a week’s recovery time before the final, I’d like
to think we’ll put out a fairly strong side and try to give
Gloucester a good game.
Having said that, I want us to throw the kitchen sink at Sale.
Let’s face it, the Cup may be a bit meaningless in the grand
scheme of things, BUT, it’s our best chance of silverware and
could be the lift we need ahead of the 20/21 season.
