This seems to be a fairly pointless thing for the club to do.
Obviously it would be great for a player to reach a milestone
cap in front of a home crowd, but I'm sure the crowd would give
them just as good of a reception if they ran on for their 301st
game. I suppose it might help the media hype around a game, but
if the players know it's made up then I can't imagine it gives
the team any sort of psychological boost for a game i.e. the
mindset won't be "let's play our hearts out for Robshaw's 300th"
when they know it's his 308th.
The friendlies point is different - I have no real view on
whether they should be counted or not, as long as it is
consistent. I don't see why they shouldn't be counted though, as
long as they are proper fixtures. Testimonials are a different
       matter

surely with both Robshaws playing most of those games the number
of caps is in excess of 600.

I agree on the both points - I argued with Paddy Lennon because
he insisted appearances as as temporary replacement didn't
count! In the end, he made the decision so the stats were wrong.
I understand he used to make up the appearances when he was at
       Irish so nothing has changed.
On friendlies, I believe they should all count because when you
look back, pretty much all games were "friendlies" before
1971/72 when the RFU Knockout cup began. If you go down the
route of not counting them, all those playing before then would
       have nothing listed!!

If you adjust for workrate it's more like 800, plus 172 England
       caps.

You can’t compare caps and how they were counted pre/post the
       professional era.
And I doubt Chris Robshaw gives a toss, frankly.

I don't know where this whole idea of club appearances being
caps has come from either. They don't get anything given after
every appearance so they should simply be called appearances!
Of course you can compare them - if you played for the 1st XV it
equals one appearance - nothing has changed

Sorry, call it appearances then. Makes no difference. You still
can't compare amateur stuff with pro. And it's still pointless
if you do. Compare a Euro knockout match with an LV group game.
Get a grip - there's more to life than numbers. :)
