A good glass of red always helps! We all want the club to do
well, and whilst I don't think Gustard should go, I do
understand people's frustration. As an example, look what
Cockerill has done at Edinburgh in a similar time frame. It's
right that fans are asking questions. He's had time to mould the
side and, as yet, his style is not clear.
I'm more disappointed today then after the Worcester game. This
was largely our first choice team (Smith, Lewies and perhaps
Chisholm aside), and they were abject.
I'm hoping our SA contingent will provide an injection of
quality, plus another two or three shrewd signings before next
season.
Let's beat Irish to lock down a European spot and lift the cup
before the seasons out.

Whilst I think his time here has already expired in terms of if
I think he will be the one to turn us around, we should only
make a move when someone with a degree of experience/success
already is available, which now is hard to come by.
Our biggest mistakes have been clear, we’ve appointed people to
run the club who have not really had the same responsibility
elsewhere before which has cost us dear in my view, and we
shouldn’t make that again.

Gustard is underperforming and it's frustrating to see the same
brainless mistakes each week, but I think you have to give him
time, and a year and a half isn't enough time.
Just look at the current top teams in the league and how long
their DoR's have been in the job: Exeter & Baxter - since 2009
Sarries & McCall - since 2010
Sale & Diamond - since 2012
Wasps & Young - 2011-2020 til Blackett took over from Head Coach
None of them had instant success apart from McCall.
Then the teams who have chopped and changed DoR's recently:
Harlequins, London Irish, Worcester, Gloucester, Saints, and
Tigers are the strugglers lately
Bristol, and Bath have relatively new DoR's and are doing well,
with Pat Lam and Stuart Hooper (who has been at the club since
2008), but, not to take away from coaching/on field
achievements, both have very wealthy owners which Quins just
don't have.
It is frustrating at the moment, and Gustard needs to improve
the team, but it's a long process and Quins have to play the
long game

Exactly! You pretty much took the words out of my mouth (well
keyboard).
The two most successful English clubs in recent times (cheating
aside) both promoted from within. In Saracens’ case, big name
coaching appointments didn’t have half the success McCall & Co.
have. Similarly, Rob Baxter had never been a head coach or DoR
prior to Exeter, but he’s done OK ...
I think the biggest problem we have is the weight of
expectation. We think we’re a bigger club then we are and IMO,
the Harlequins ‘brand’ significantly outweighs our actual
onfield achievements and we don’t have the money to match our
ambitions. Anyone who coaches us is under unrealistic pressure.
We undoubtedly have the potential to be much better than we
currently are, but I don’t think it takes a big name to unlock
that. What we actually need is someone who can make us more than
the sum of our parts - whether Gustard can do that is another
question, but the rest of the coaching team also need to
shoulder some responsibility. For example, I have no doubt Bomb
is a great bloke, but he just hasn’t done the business with our
pack.

Spot on about the rest of the coaching staff, it's not just
Gustard - it's incredibly inexperienced in terms of coaching
experience, and I would have liked to see an old head come in to
support Gustard, but give them time and I think they will all
come good; all had extremely successful playing careers.
A big positive is the things that seem to be going on outside
the first team - Laurie Dalrymple isn't even a year into his new
to his role and he took Wolves from the Championship to the
Premiership and secured European football for the first time
since 1980 (AND got out the group stages) and backed it up every
season til he left.
Also the social media aspect has improved tenfold to be one of
the best up with Bristol's. Anything that makes the club more
attractive to fans and players alike, and gives more pulling
power, can only be a good thing

Sacking would be mad now. But if we’re not better next season he
should go
Wasps were in decline and are now top 4 after sacking Young. The
old 3-5 year plan people talk such utter tosh. Doesn’t work.
Name me 1 team where it has, you either have a good coach or not
Our defence is an absolute embarrassment

The defence situation is a mystery to me. Paul was England's
defence coach with Eddie Jones and an integral part of
instilling the wolf pack fierce defending at Sarries. The fact
that we now hold a record for most consecutive games conceding a
try is very telling.

Bit late but a few thoughts another abysmal performance.
Out - No Gustard should be given more time but where is the
momentum and consistency going to come from? He needs to find
some answers pdq.
Selection- Serious worries again. How many of us despaired when
we saw Herron at 10? And then Smith was on the pitch in the warm
up. What was PG thinking?
Tactics - Gameplan not clear what is going on? Saw Irish lose to
Glaws later but you could see what they were doing and
intention. Why was Herron told to go for posts first half when
our line out and maul appeared strong and would give us
physchological advantage too.
Imports - yes welcome all the South Africans coming but will it
work is it just a short term fix? How long will they stay
worries they could divide the camp and implode like Glos
recently.
Skills and ball handling - after months of pre season why do we
offload in hope rather than precision?
Journeymen - harsh but we seem to have acquired a few too many.
Performance - ultimately it’s down players on the pitch so PG
why is the execution of the plan going up the swanny?
Next games - fear for us against Irish and Glos.
Finally ps thanks club well done today and thanks to all
stewards who were superb.

The whole set up is Gustard's. If he cannot make things work by
the New Year maybe he should go - assuming there is a top class
replacement.
Maybe the problem lies with player attitudes - particularly the
old guard.
There is certainly a lot resting on the game against Irish....
