The JK comparison I don’t think is a fair one. I think with JK
he had been at the club for years and it was clear him, the
players and board needed a change. The role was not suited to
him. I have heard from quite a few players that he was an
outstanding forwards coach and he ended up doing no coaching in
his role.
For Gussy he has always been so positive about the players at
the club and they need to back him.

The ‘football thing’ is relevant IMO. The clamour for the
coach’s head is much more akin to what you’d see in football. I
thought it was a factual observation that doesn’t have anything
to do with social standing ...
I’d have though the drinking comment was a bit more likely to
cause potential offence.

Very much a football approach that we don't want to see in
rugby.
What I do hope however is the general discontent of the fans is
seen as an opportunity to be more ruthless regards selection,
contracts and players futures at the club.
I would genuinely rather see an academy player get a run out,
who perhaps does not meet the prem standards, but shows the
heart and front that we want than some of our first team.
A lesson is to be learnt from US sports teams who can genuinely
go from last position one season, to champions the next by
building their academy and selectively including marquee
players.
Sale a good example of this. A good core team that has some
serious fight to them, then add some marquee signings like they
have this season and they are very solidly in the top 4.
DC's tap and go errors and flapping at the ref are not things
that will see us achieve a top 4 finish. Nor a core behaviour
that a winning side should have in its ranks.

I agree with your sentiment entirely, but US sports franchises
don't have the threat of relegation and the financial cliff edge
that brings. The draft system also provides a degree of inbuilt
rebalancing.
I'm going off on a tangent now, but that's why I'd like to see
the league ringfenced. The gap between the championship
(Newcastle aside) and the premiership is massive and removing
the threat of relegation should allow teams to be less
conservative, both in playing their young talent and in playing
style.

Are we missing our new Saffa signings more than we think. Three
more bodies to share the game time limits that are hopefully
first choice players could make a huge difference. Having said
that our passing and basic play were poor today. Why do we keep
making offloads that are wild and hopeful time and time again.
You would think that after 5 or 6 failed attempts you might play
safe and keep it simple. A lot of our senior and big name
players had shockers today for some reason. As Quins fans I
suppose we should be used to this sort of performance.

TBH, there is little to play for now, so I think we use this
opportunity to bed in the new players.
Other than that, we really need someone to take ownership for
sparking some change in the attitude of the squad. There are
still way too many players phoning it in.
As OptimisticRealist said, I’d sooner see academy players who
are desperate for the opportunity than guys that seem to be
lacking the necessary motivation.

We also need someone - one or two players - to step up and show
some on-field leadership, captain or otherwise.

Well, now my mixed emotions have disapated, mostly due to a
superb 2013 organic rondo red wine, I still don't think Gustard
is the right man for the job but I will refrain from further
'football type' callings for Gustard to go.
I do find as I get older the more pragmatic side of me fighting
to get out so let us see what the next few seasons bring.
I hope to be pleasently surprised, if not it's all part of the
Quins journey and I can say we do have a great bunch of
supporters who are, with any view, passionate and loyal, even if
we don't see eye too eye on all topics.
Next game of merit is the cup final, COYQ's.
