Well Said, Ugo

Why is this so hard for some people to understand? Maybe they'll
get it if Ugo explains.

OK - this is an important topic and deserves some examination.
However a record 3 complaints of various posts in a single
thread tells me that maybe there's a lot more heat than light
being generated.
I remind you all once again, stick to making your arguments, do
not denigrate, belittle, insult other posters or their opinions
- play the ball not the man.
And for the avoidance of doubt "Black Lives Matter" refers to
the idea conferred in those three words, it has nothing to do
with the organisation of the same name.

I actually thought it was a decent debate. Didn't see anything
too untoward.

Just been updated on messages I missed. How very disappointing
as I genuinely thought it was a good debate at the point I
looked away from the thread.

OK - I did try and split the original post into "relevant to
Harlequins" and "BLM in General", but some comments were like
half and half so I couldn't really do it.
The original thread is here
HTML https://comeallwithin.createaforum.com/everything-not-rugby-related!/re-well-said-ugo-comments/,<br
/>it's on the non rugby board and I don't read that or moderate
it
(unless we get serious complaints).
Go over there and knock yourselves out. Please keep this thread
for issues to do with Ugo's statement.

Why use those 3 words then?
I think it's an ok article, but the reason that there isn't an
anti-racism campign in rugby is simply because rugby doesn't
have a problem with racism of fans towards players.

Ugo begs to differ Rodney. Did you actually read all of the
article?
"We need to stop having a debate about whether there is a
problem or not – because speak to any black player and they will
tell you there is. Anything beyond that is wilful ignorance and
we have to be comfortable accepting that and then we can work
towards dealing with it."

Some posters on here should change their names to 'Willful
ignorance' - would make it easier to gloss over their comments

I think there may be a racism problem, but it's not an overt
one. No-one makes monkey noises at black players (despite the
mix up that used to occur with the "Ugo!" chant).
However, how many black coaches are there? How many black people
are in the upper echelons of the RFU (or any of the six nations)
or World Rugby?

For me, this is the problem. It's not enough now to not be
racist. We have to be actively anti-racist. It's the only way to
get back to a balance. I know 2 people who have done
physoanalytic tests which revealed a level of racism - you would
never think of either as in any small way racist. That doesn't
mean they're racist, but it's more of a problem than people
realise. It's systemic in our culture and has been for a long
time.
