I thought the boys were very good last night. Symonds and Robbo
excellent in the pack and I was v impressed with our front row.
Not seen the lineout and mauls that good since our Prem winning
days. JF looks like an excellent addition to the coaching set
up. I think it gives the whole team more confidence when Mike is
at FB too - he commands the high ball and looked fully fit. I
also thought our whole team looked in excellent condition - well
done to the strength and conditioning boys behind the scenes.
I do worry about our back row options should one of the 5
tonight go down with a long term injury. Robbo looked right on
his game tonight....one more year!? I know there are rumours
about Clifford but I really hope they are not true as it would
leave us very stretched in that department.

I have to say that was an incredibly impressive performance from
us last night against a team that has been lauded by everyone
over the last few weeks, not giving us a sniff in a lot of
discussions. The reality was Sale never looked like they were
going to win that game due to our immense defence and pack
really fronting up. Sale didn’t turn up, but moreover we didn’t
       let them either.
Whisper it quietly, 8 games to go and played all of the current
top 3 twice (then add sarries who would be in there too and we
play next week), then suddenly we have a slightly “easier” run
in. We could sneak into the top 4.
Thought front row was excellent, Baldwin and Kerrod in
particular were superb in set piece and around the pitch. Symons
and Lewies were everywhere and completely disrupted their
lineouts. Our back row weren’t obvious, but fronted up against
their huge options and stopped Curry pretty well.
Landajo and Smith were superb in their game management, Care
will be worried. I really like Lang and marchant in the centres
together, Marchant showed glimpses of what we’ve missed and I
think if we had throughout the whole season we’d have a few more
points.. Back 3 showed glimpses of the potential they have,
Earle and brown looked as sharp as you could hope for after such
long times out. Ashton, I felt slightly wrong cheering him on
but I’m sure that’ll change with tries, but he looked
interested, throwing himself into rucks, and impressed by His
rugby brain with a few of the crossfield kicks being things he
       was calling out for.

Thought we got all the basics right, which gives the platform
for the halfbacks to control the game. Nice to see a bit of
flair too I’m sure in the coming games we’ll be treated to some
       great tries.
       What’s the Clifford rumour?

That he is going to retire.
If he gaoes, along with Robshaw I wuold be amazed if we did not
       bring in another body

That would be a shame but believable he’s had a torrid time with
       injury.

Arniepie (who’s normally pretty accurate) says Clifford is
       retiring through injury.
One thing that occurred to me after the match is that Ashton is
exactly the kind of player who will work well with Sean Long. He
works off the ball and picks good lines, and I can see the two
of them coming up with some really interesting ways to vary the
point of attack and lines we use.
Overall, it looks like Gussy has used the break to good
advantage. Still some rough edges to polish off, but our
performance was very controlled with some moments of real
promise. The offloading in that first break was reminiscent of
2011-12 and will be very hard to stop if we can start doing it
       regularly.

Losing Clifford and Robshaw is a major set back if that is the
case. Surely there has to be some funds for a first team signing
but not sure who is now left...

If only there was an outstanding Fijian back row on our books,
if Clifford is retiring we may regret letting Semi leave.
