I’m still very much hoping all works out for the best with
Clifford. If he stays, and with Kenningham and Trenholm coming
through the Academy, I don’t think we’ll sign another back
rower. Depending on how things work out we might still need to
spend some biggish money elsewhere.
I do have a suspicion that we might see a bit more of Will Evans
in the back row. There’s just a little voice at the back of my
head telling me there’s a useful heads-up openside there who
just needs some consistent game time to start to shine.

TH is looking really interesting after all the disappointment of
losing Kyle. I was genuinely surprised by how well Kerrod played
and he definitely looks to have the bit between his teeth.
Collier came on late after what can’t have been much training
post the birth of his son and demolished the Sale scrum. I’ve a
feeling Van Dyk might catch some people out when he gets some
game time, Trenier is presumably working to get himself fit and
we now have three serious TH prospects in the Academy...
Louw had best arrive soon or he might struggle to get a game!

Agree, with the new interpretations of the breakdown, fast to
the breakdown is going to be key. Evans is that Neil Back kind
of a 7 which has been almost extinguished from the game in
recent years.

I was thinking something similar. Kerrod has really developed
his game, Collier seems to be back to full fitness and with Louw
arriving it gives us a really strong selection of THs who we can
hope will push each other hard for the 3 and 18 shirts. We lose
Kyle’s ability in attack, but on Friday’s evidence we finally
have the basics working, and if we can keep offloading the way
we did on a couple of occasions yesterday we will give Smith
plenty of options to make holes in defences.

decisions and let Smith run the game from 10. DC doesn’t always
do that - I often feel like it’s a weird competition between him
and Smith re. who is actually running the game. When Smith is
getting less ball, he’s more likely to try to force it, whereas
last night’s game shows that he’s more than capable of managing
a tight game.

Not disappointed in Kyle going, thoughT our scrum dominated
theirs most of the game
Think Kyle resulted in 1 or maybe w penalties for Bristol
yesterday, same with Gabs going, no real loss as enough strength
in his position
Going to be very different at Allianz next week, and then a
short turn around before Worc game, next couple of games are
really going to show where we could go, and let’s hope the saga
contingent arrives just at the right time

When I saw Brown, Earle and Ashton lining up on Friday night I
realised that I have absolutely no qualms with Ibitoye leaving,
with Murley, Greene and Morris covering the back 3 we’re pretty
well stocked there.

Have to say I'm not as sad at Kyle leaving as I thought. Don't
get me wrong, I wish the lad all the best but actually recently
he wasn't really making the impact he had initially. We didn't
see him scampering down the pitch showing an unlikely turn of
speed for a prop like he used to and while he popped up in the
line occasionally, his passing wasn't really different to other
forwards. I think maybe other teams had worked him out better
and while I think perhaps he still has great things to offer a
team I think we'll be fine without him.

I really don't agree that his passing and running isn't
different to other forwards. He's in a class of his own. If
we're not using him properly, that's our issue, not his.
I would have liked him to stay but not at the money that Bristol
were reportedly offering. I've said before, good isn't the same
as good value.
Indications from the Sale game were encouraging though. The
newer forwards all showed well against what's supposedly a
strong pack.

I'll give you Earle but, Aston is very much coming to the end of
his career. The same can be said of Brown and I don't the he and
Ibitoye have anything to or there a need to compare.
I know Gabs is wanting on a couple of things but show me a
player at his age and experience who hasn't!
Don't get me wrong though as I thought our backs look like they
could give any side a scare if giving the chance!
