Really hope they drop this Game Changers thing soon. It's pretty
embarrassing. Decent starting team. Hope the number of
replacements dosn't turn the second half into a farce. Really
looking forward to being back at the Stoop, which is certainly
not something I thought I'd feel at the end of last season!

To be fair, it's a pre season game, to test out combos etc -- I
won't be surprised if we change the whole team for the second
half.

I appreciate that, and that people need game time, test out
combos, etc. I just find that sometimes, in these sorts of games
and some A games, they make so many changes that the game loses
all sense of structure and it ends up being a pretty meaningless
exercise. Oh well, still looking forward to it.

It does annoy me coz it feels like a training session -- enjoy
the first half and then drink a lot is my plan

Yep, agree with that when I saw 10 backs on the bench, I think
it will be a different team for each half.

and Catrikilis. This idea that all three are going to transform
our fortunes doesn't hold water until they play (and perform) on
a regular basis. But my original point stands - we are
desperately weak at hooker.

I can't recall any posts where a single player has been claimed
to be the one who will change our fortunes. I see posts that
suggest an individual may be just what we need, or what we've
been missing, and as a turn of phrase I think that's pretty
clear in its meaning.
Bothma has a fair few caps as captain of his national side; yes,
it's Namibia, but they didn't prevent the likes of Jaques Burger
being a fine player.
Elia has performed well for us, and the surprise for me was how
long we took before he actually played for us.Samoa have
produced a few decent hookers over the years - Trevor Leota and
our own Tani Fuga being examples - and they are a pretty strong
side.
The Cat suffered a freak injury so we've seen very little of
him. He's highly rated but time will tell whether he'll come
back as the player we'd like him to be.
Personally I think that all three are valuable members of our
squad. I concede to your belief that none of them, individually,
will turn the club's fortunes around. I'd temper that by stating
that I don't know of anyone who has claimed that they would do
such a thing.

My main concern is with the coaches' perception of Elia. Hooker
is comfortably our weakest position and Buchanon missed all of
last season, yet he only has 16 appearances. That's why I'm
nervous about all the comments about being excited to see him
play. He needs a season playing under a Brits or a Youngs or a
Webber, not to be our best hope in a position we are struggling
in.
Similarly I am more nervous about Bothma's ability to stay fit.
If he does, he will almost certainly be an asset. But it's a
massive but.
Not sure why Catrikilis has been dragged into this as he's not
been put on the same pedestal as the other 2 and was just plain
unlucky last season.

Well, when we had the second best fly half in the world it
didn't make a huge amount of difference. So individual players
may not have the impact their name/position might suggest.
