Would be nice to see Dombrandt play for England before another
import... yet again, would rather not lose him from Quins for
big chunks of the season too!
Agree with Mike... summer rugby all day for me. Far more
marketable and you wouldn't lose all of the (ahem) perks of
winter rugby - lets not pretend our summers are perfect.
Salary-wise, rugby should never have got to where it did for
this crash to happen. The cap should always have been linked to
turnover. Football, at the top end, doesn't need to because it's
far more marketable with endless revenue streams.
Mike coming across as very sensible.

I'm sorry, but a season that spans the summer is a wrong step as
far as I'm concerned. Every 4 years you'll be coming up against
the Olympics and the Euro Football competition. And interspersed
with that you have the football World Cup also on a four yearly
cycle., along with the Ashes that will be a bigger draw for the
casual sports fan.
Add in that it's the time of the year that families are usually
looking to go on holiday and you will soon see it eat into
attendances at games (as has happened for RL). You may say that
we don't get "perfect" summers, but the meteorological trend is
that our summers are getting hotter. I doubt any player wants to
be playing a top level game of rugby in temperatures in the high
20C to low 30C week in week out.

It is more marketable, but I'd say it's in a bigger mess than
rugby. Outside of the huge money clubs are a lot of others
trying to keep up. Subsequently huge losses are regular and
expected, so prices of pretty much everything is inflated. It
has even resulted in football clubs getting special treatment in
the case of insolvency, so that some unsecured creditors are
paid before others, effectively preferentially. The football
creditors rule has naturally caused a lot of anger among those
not included in this preferred category.
Once the pandemic is over, it will be interesting to see how
football clubs fare, if the bulk of their customers have much
less disposable income. My expectation is less merchandise sold,
less games attended, probably more Sky subscriptions or people
watching games in pubs; interesting times ahead.

Think the whole entertainment landscape will have changed due to
C19, with people less happy to mingle in large numbers (except
on beaches or in pubs having been locked in for 3 months,
idiots!) and I expect that the amount of disposable income will
be less for a large amount of people.
I am pretty sure that rugby is going to continue to have to
make major changes to improve its sustainability in the new
normal, and if that includes summer rugby so be it, personally
it isn’t what I want but apart from not attending games what
could I do?

If summer Rugby is so good why don't SANZAR do instead and leave
us with winter rugby. We can align on that, the answer is the
ground is hard, it is hot and their are distractions elsewhere,
hence more injures, more fatigue (hence further Injury) and
lastly less people to watch and pay the wages.
If SANZAR want an aligned season they can always align with the
northern hemisphere countries, we are after all are not on the
whole the total financial basket case that SANZAR are. SA TV
rights keep the rugby Championship almost viable

No need to be sorry! It's all opinions.
I don't think people would skip Quins games in favour of the
Olympics or Euros. With those, you'll have games/events to watch
at all times of the day, so a couple of hours at the Stoop isn't
going to mean you miss out. Of course families do go on holiday
in the summer but people also travel all year round - I don't
see that it would have the huge impact you suggest.
Regarding the temperatures... pro players do it year in and year
out in SA and Australia in 20-30 degree heat and don't seem to
suffer. The most exciting and entertaining games we usually see
are played on glorious, sunny days with a fast surface. For the
prem final we won in 2012, it was 25 degrees and beautiful. What
a day for it!
Respect your concerns.. but I think it would make rugby a far
more attractive prospect for casual fans and even players.

Your whole argument falls apart here as soon as you compare
British summers to Australian summers. Playing in 30C heat is
one thing, playing in 40C+ would be another entirely.

Not really true though - You get acclimatised to the local
conditions.
- also, Super Rugby starts in the summer - so they play in the
summer anyway.
But lets get some facts - (from wikipedia:)
Average high in Sydney in Summer is 27 degrees
Average high in London in Summer 23.2 degrees
Average high in Toulon in Summer 29.4 degrees

That's... not quite telling the whole story, never sleep.
Firstly, the Top14 doesn't play in July (usually!) and that's
the hottest month in Toulon, the only one where temperatures of
>= 40 degrees have ever been recorded. The highest recorded
temps in June and August are < 35 degrees.
In Sydney, their max temperatures in their summer are 42.2,
45.8, and 42.1 degrees for Dec/Jan/Feb.
In Brisbane, it's 38.9, 40.0, 41.7.
In Melbourne, it's 43.7, 45.6, 46.4.
This is the problem.
Also: Super Rugby "starts in the summer" - it starts at the end
of summer, in February (usually mid-Feb, though this year was
earlier). It's still baking hot, but the players are in peak
condition for that period before it cools down for the rest of
the tournament (which plays through the autumn and into winter)
