All does seem in some kind of turmoil at Tigers, but you can
fairly argue from Steve Borthwicks point of view that Manu does
not offer enough for the games he plays. But I would say he
owes Tigers an awful lot considering how much they have
supported him during the last few years. Plus the current state
of things. He should knuckle down & commit to Tigers.

The Guardian and Telegraph have the story as well now.
The Guardian are reporting that 4 others have chosen to leave
Leicester: "... Kyle Eastmond, the long-serving prop Greg
Bateman, the centre Noel Reid and the full-back Telusa Veainu."
The Telegraph have Jordan Taufua on the list as well
The full story's here:
HTML https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2020/jul/01/rugby-manu-tuilagi-and-kyle-eastmond-leave-leicester-after-refusing-pay-cuts
The Guardian article are tipping Tuilagi to move abroad, which
of course will end his England career and may not do his Lions
chances much good.
Also - not an easy 1st week for Borthwick, suddenly finding
yourself 6 players down.

Depends how raw 2020/21 recruiting has progressed, could be a
blessing in freeing up funds to strengthen squad. Timing of next
season and contracts could be interesting if league doesn't go
back to current dates of May finish to most competitions easing
player workload.

If Tigers have unilaterally decided to cut the players' wages,
and the players refuse, then the players will surely be entitled
to compensation i.e. payment of the balance of the money that is
contractually due to them. That would surely mean that not only
do Tigers lose the services of the players concerned but they
also incur the entirety of the original salary costs anyway,
hence inhibiting (in both money terms and salary cap terms) the
recruitment of replacements until the end of the contract
periods.

That was what someone was suggesting on one of the Tigers
message boards. I don't know if it's correct; it seems a bit
unlikely that Tigers would have pursued it if they had to pay-up
all of the leavers' contracts. The poster also made the point
that, if they did have to pay up, it's a salary payment, so
would count towards the salary cap.
Worth noting that Tigers have made 31 other staff redundant.
That's a big number for a rugby club.

According to today's Torygraph (is it the Torygraph any longer?
Not, going by some of the stuff it is publishing nowadays!) a
number of Leicester players are reaching for their lawyers.

It may be that if the players go to another club on a lower
salary, Tigers could be liable to make up the difference. A lot
depends on their individual contracts. But if they go elsewhere
for more money, they're not out of pocket so couldn't justify a
claim.
