Where will all this end? I am all for Equal Opportunities but
this National Mass Hysteria for BAME virtue signalling is just
becoming a little silly. There is much more to singing Swing Low
than ever using it to celebrate slavery in any way, shape or
form. Speak up the silent majority!

I think the world is losing the plot, the problem being, by
saying something like that I will be branded "far right" (which
I am nothing of the sort). You do not need to erase the past to
make progress in the future.

I am of mixed heritage, and therefore just about sneak into the
BAME category. I sing Swing Low. Stuff the PC brigade. Education
over Symbolism, please.

Given they recently discovered the song was not (as rumoured)
first sung by the boys of my old school (Douai), but was sung in
a game featuring Martin Offiah (i.e. a linking of the name and
chariots) I think this is somewhat over the top. I would like a
survey to find how many black people who were aware of the fact
the crowd sing it at England rugby games are actually offended.
If it genuinely upsets them, then lets stop it. If they don't
care, why should we?

People need to get back to work and stop having time to get
indignant all the time.

Swing Low has been a bone of contention for literally decades.
It is SUPER weird that an overwhelmingly white & middle/upper
class crowd has been singing a slave song at rugby matches, and
even weirder that it was originally sung "in honour" of a black
player.
Also: "National Mass Hysteria for BAME virtue signalling"? Come
on. Why do you and people like you refuse to accept that these
things are genuine?

It's a shame rugby is being brought into this, I can honestly
say I've never heard or seen rasism at a rugby match, I like to
think rugby is very inclusive, sure, there is work to do with
ethic minority coaching and engaging/engagement but that can be
said for all races, religions, sexes, LGBTQ+ ect.
To start claiming an song is a cause of rasism or could cause
offence when no offensive or degroitory language is used just
because of who wrote it is going to far imho. Where does it
stop, I would hazard a guess that the vast majority of old
classical music, Elgar, Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms ect all had
slaves or unpaid servants or were associated with such areas due
to the era they were alive in, should they all be considered
offensive?
It just seems a worthy cause has gone off the primary mission of
raising awareness of race issues in America and globally to
targeting every aspect of life.

The primary mission of raising awareness? I think you've got
that rather wrong. It's not about raising awareness. It's an
outpouring of rage and grief and demanding widespread change
because enough is enough.

I am not sure that Swing Low has anything at all to do with
Martin Offiah, it was always sung in the after match revelries
when I first started playing club rugby in the early sixties.
