Agreed Never Sleep, this is a way of managing the noise around
players current contracted salaries just dropping which in
reality, can't ever happen, unless the player agrees.
Be honest, who on here would accept that in their job without
consultation and a chance to have their say?
It's good they are looking to cut them in the long run to make
the game sustainable but I also feel that this is the chunk in
the armour that the 'Franchise Rugby' mob are looking for. I'd
expect to see a heavily merchandised package in the not too
distant future where players can earn fantastic money to play in
global leagues once the global calendar is agreed.

Maybe. Im not saying whether it is a good thing or not, just
that by doing it, clubs are not bending/breaking any rules. They
would all have known this when they signed up.

The league is trying to achieve wage DEFLATION. This drives a
bus through that and defeats the whole point of introducing a
salary cap that the clubs can afford.

Maybe you are right.
But, I think if you freeze wages and then don't bring in high
value players from other ownership teams, you will probably
achieve the same

The only problem with signing too many players on long term
contracts is that if the team struggles on the pitch it is
difficult to refresh the squad - or to cut costs in times of
greater financial difficulty.

So what was the beef that Lambo and the RPA had or were they
just not advised at the time of the gripe? I assume all are
happy now.

Sorry to be cynical but if everyone takes £100 cut or whatever
figure you choose you can state this. I am very surprised they
are taking anything from Academy players maybe £5.00?

According to D. tel this morning only Gloucester and Worcester
have not been extending contracts. Deadline was midnight last
night for it to count as an existing contract.
