It was a cheap jab. But one of the things that annoys me about
Gatland, aside from his tendency to put unfit players on the
pitch in Lions Test matches and hope they play themselves into
form, is that he more than any ther coach I’ve seen seems to
specifically select and coach his scrums to play for penalties.
He did it with Wasps, with Wales and with the Lions. He actually
does it very well, but as a bit of a rugby purist I like to see
the scrum as a proper contest and I value those coaches and
players whose aim is to out scrummage their opponent rather than
con the ref.

I think Louw will be 1st choice with Collier his deputy. WC
still has time to develop I don’t see him featuring for England
unless there are a series of injuries, however he can still be a
great club player. Sinks was great but what he does well is not
TH work, he’s ok in the scrum but it’s his running lines and
soft hands hat get him the plaudits. If we can be stronger in
the scrum I don’t think we’ll miss him too much.
Still hoping for a BR and lock signing.

Ive said before, I want my Hooker to be able to hook and throw,
my props to be able to push and my locks to have some grunt and
be able to catch. Anything after that is a bonus. I like the
way or pack is shaping up. If we get the 2 props from Ealing we
would have signed 3 props who all have a reputation for
scrummaging well. We have a new LO coach which gives hope. We
have the backs to tear anyone apart, if we can start to dominate
up front we will be a very handy side

Agreed. While I’m sad to see Sinckler leaving, I think the
signings we’ve made and the players we’re linked with suggest
that we’re trying to create a more set-piece focused pack. That
works for me.

His first scrum on the international stage was epic. Argie
attacking scrum, Will straight on at TH and the scrum did'nt
budge even with the Argies with the ball at the back, trying for
a second drive or a scrum penalty. Probably only lasted 30sec
but seemed like an age that Will held firm before the Argies
realized they weren't getting anything and let the ball out of
the back

That’s the one. 30 seconds for a scrum to stay stable is an
eternity in prop terms. I’d like to see him get back to that
sort of form.
