Maybe take your own advice and watch the games when Daly doesn't
have the ball to see why he's getting criticised
edit to add: for example, the world cup final, or this year's
calcutta cup, or pick any number of matches where we're slightly
under the cosh

Also, going back to that NZ game that you're praising him for...
he made 4 passes all game. His highlight was the excellent break
outside Mo'unga. 4 passes, 5 carries for 13m is the sum total of
his influence _with_ the ball in that match.

It’s clear we’re not going to agree on this. My view is that
England are a better team with him in the side with the freedom
to roam, accepting that currently he could do better under the
high ball and in defence.
Taking the stats, he passed and ran more in the final but had a
worse game. The defence still have to be alert for the runners
off him as well - even if the ball doesn’t get to him. You’re
ensuring that every opposition defender has to be switched on,
with three playmakers ready to take advantage of any who aren’t.

Brown got abuse for not passing, not for not being able to;
there's a difference. If Eddie hadn't been happy about it, he'd
have been unceremoniously dropped without more ado; look what
happened to Care. Instead, I would be willing to bet that Eddie
had asked Mike to pass only if it was on, and otherwise to take
the ball into contact himself, because the chance of recycling
the ball off Mike carrying into contact was materially higher
than the chance of recycling it from England's other back three
players.

Ah, unlike all those other backs we pick where defenders don't
have to be alert, I suppose.
He had a nightmare final under the high ball and what we got in
the 2020 6N was awful.
