Social Distancing and Next Season

It is being suggested that social distancing may be required for
many months to come. Could that mean leaving empty seats
between supporters? Would you want to sit in close proximity to
others if you were not sure that you and they were immune from
infection? I can certainly understand the concern from
supporters who would prefer to stay away until there is
certainty. How will the club be able to deal with these
concerns.
Looking at the age demographic thete are a considerable number
of supporters in the "at risk" category. Yet if we were to all
vote with our feet and stay away for health reasons there would
be no club.
Whilst I am one of the supporters who paid the extra when Quins
were relegated, this is not just about money but lives. I want
to support the club but also do not want to put myself and my
family at further risk. May have to be a TV armchair supporter
at this rate.
What do others think?

It's really hard to guess how things will play out, but one
option would be to restrict who can attend and ensure that they
wear masks and are spaced out around the ground, with strict
limits on entry to bars. They might enforce use of the app to
order drinks, and only allow people in to collect.
You can probably get adequate social separation if you limit the
Stoop to about half capacity (season tickets only?). It's not
ideal for anyone, but that would allow the club to play some
games and get some revenue, and at least some fans to watch the
games.
The only way I can see a more normal match day right now is if
we reach a point where there's enough herd immunity to allow
people out - but mass vaccination looks like a 2021 thing rather
than a 2020 one.

I think its too early to guess what will happen, but Poorfour
suggestion is completely plausible. I do think after this latest
round of isolation things will be relaxed in as much as getting
the economy moving again however I feel we are a long way from
sport having crowds.
I’d suggest they just scrap this season and start over, maybe
play the 1st half of it behind closed doors but all games are
streamed to SY holders through My Stoop.

A friend in China goes to the office, where everyone has their
temperature checked before being allowed to enter the building.
That may be a first step.
ALternatively, what about live streaming all games, for a fee
(obviously FOC to season ticket holders). That would get some
revenue, and would allow those who use dodgy internet feeds (not
me, honest) to "see" the game live without ads/interrupted
service. It probably wouldn't get as much revenue, but it's
better than nothing.

I have paid for next season, but am not at all sure it was the
right/sensible thing to do as I am one of the ones in isolation
and may well not be able to go to a match. Having said that I
have to live in hope and rugby is important to me and I want
Quins to survive this.

What every other seat empty? That would put everyone within 2m
of at least 8 people.

This is an absolute non starter - Isn't it?
You would have to have alternate rows empty, and then every
third seat to be occupied.
It's never going to happen. Or it will happen without me.
What about the guys on the pitch? Scrums, lineouts, rucks,
mauls, tackles?

It’s a good point
Think until there’s a vaccine people won’t be comfortable in
close proximity
Might go and watch games at Allianz park and Not Nots, plenty of
space

Premiership clubs working towards resuming 2019-20 season in
July
21 April 2020
Clubs in rugby union's Premiership are working towards a
best-case scenario of returning to action on the weekend of 3-5
July and accept midweek games would be needed, BBC Sport
understands.
The plans involve a month of training before the first match and
would build to a final, ideally at Twickenham if it is
available, on 15 August.
However, plans rely on social distancing guidelines easing, and
access to coronavirus tests and emergency services for all
involved being supported by the government.
Premiership Rugby sources said they were not interested in
"buying testing via private routes" and would "never take
resources away from the public needs".
The dates that are being worked towards would involve several
midweek games. That is understood to have the approval of BT
Sport and the clubs, who are keen to complete the season after
it was suspended in March because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Every game would be televised.
Clubs have also discussed different possibilities for where to
stage matches in what will be a condensed schedule.
Although Twickenham could be used as a neutral venue or a venue
for multiple fixtures, and has the necessary medical facilities
and pitch quality, clubs have acknowledged this plan will fall
down if London is kept in lockdown for longer than elsewhere.
Twickenham is also currently being used as a drive-through
coronavirus testing centre.
It is understood that no formal conversations have taken place
between Premiership Rugby and the Rugby Football Union, but
there is an openness to talks.
There could also be a double-header fixture of the Premiership
final and the Premiership Rugby Cup final if no team is involved
in both.
However, one source suggested the contact nature of rugby, the
handling of the ball and the presence of bodily fluids like
saliva and blood could mean rugby takes longer to return than
other sports.
During a recent World Health Organization webinar, the director
of medicine at the NBA said: "There are certain things that are
going to be very difficult.
"For example, in the sport of basketball, what about the
basketball itself? How well can we disinfect the basketball? As
soon as it comes back into play, people are handling it."
Premiership Rugby bosses have been in regular contact with the
government about drawing up a protocol that helps sport return
safely without having an impact on NHS needs.
The preference is for a unified position for all sport to
follow.
Premiership Rugby's return-to-play protocol is largely similar
to World Rugby. It involves two weeks of individual training and
four weeks of impact training before the first match.

Amateur grass roots sports are going to benefit greatly due to
the vastly smaller crowds in which the new rules should be far
easier to manage.
Currently and in the next few months there is no way that I or
my wife will risk catching the virus by sitting in a large crowd
whether that be a sporting event or concert.
A season watching Salisbury RFC beckons which will also mean
that our dwindling savings which have been hit by the crash, be
it long or short term, won't take such a big hit caused by 2 STs
and travelling expenses.
